How to Avoid the Plague

For me works this strategy bests (Beyond the Sword RFC version):
- let some cheap unit in city, for example worker
- when unexpected plague strikes and kill units in your city it will be the worker
- activate all units and press h for heal
- just wait until end of the plague that's it :) you lost only one worker, no skilled garrison units

Keep unpromoted plague fodder units on hand, such as warriors, in each city. Don't use workers as fodder for the plague!

If possible, put a healer in each city too. Cheap cavalry recruited with barracks and a stable can be promoted to medic I immediately, and heal troops quicker than normal.

Wait... do health levels REALLY affect a city's chances of getting plague, and the rate at which it recovers?

Oh, I have no doubt that it makes sense. I just didn't think that anyone had poked around in the code to see if it was true.

Lately I've been removing plague in WB as soon as it appears because I hate both the plague and the ways around it, though nowadays I play Civ5 mostly.

This is madness!

It's definitely true. I've had some games with really minimal plague damage by whipping the cities to where they have +10 Health.

If at all possible, get the workers out of there! They succumb really fast even if they aren't in a city.

In DoC, plague doesn't kill units, so you don't need to do all the move-three-spaces-away nonsense. Saves a lot of micromanagement.

The penalty for this is slower gameplay in late game, but even my below-minimum-spec laptop seems to keep going somehow.

"1) As soon as plague hits one city in the world, move all of your units to a tile 3 spaces away from every city."

Have fun playing Egypt with that strategy!
