I haven't checked through all of the threads in the mac forum, but I think I have stumbled upon a way for you to get the AI to declare war on you. If anyone else has already figured this out, well, okay, then I've been out of the loop. Its worked for me on two occassions when I tried it out. Or it could just be bug, although thats' unlikely. So here goes:
1) Find a AI civ that has units within your territory that you dont have an ROP with, and check the diplomacy screen of that civ to make sure that you can tell them to 'leave or declare war'.
2) Make the leader furious by any means, I did it by demanding ridiculous tributes. Then ask them to 'leave or declare war'. Get out of the diplomacy window if they didnt't declare war.
3) Open the diplomacy window again, and see if you can still see the 'leave or declare war' option. If so, tell the AI this again. Do this as many times as possible. It usually took them three demands to leave until they declared war on me.

So if anyone is successful with this, then it isn't just my version of civ, it means I (or if somebody has already, they) have discovered how to become the next Otto von Bismarck of Civ III!:yeah: :tank: If anyone has any questions about my direcitons, just put up a post. If anyone can do this too, also put up a post. Thanks

I've used the same method before myself. I demand a tech over and over again until diplomatic status reaches furious. Then, like you, I demand they leave my lands or declare war - works all the time. In fact, I've even had a civ declare war on me while I was demanding the tech, etc. over and over - just for demanding. Its a good way to keep the reputation clean. :)

I usually just declare war myself... nothing wrong with that. The only circumstances that I get them to declare war on me is to break deals n such. Another strategy that works the same way, basically, is repeatedly trying to plant a spy (if it fails to first time, it'll keep failing every time on that turn), or expose an enemy spy, if they dont have a spy, then it will fail, and they'll declare war if they dont like you. These of course, cost money (which shouldn't really be a problem by this point in the game), but are something that you can use if they have no troops in your territory.

Well, there goes all my joy of believing I made a important discovery. Oh, well, back to the drawing board. :( Do you think a lot of other people know about this? If you can think of a way for people to see or learn about this, I think everybody here at CFC would appreciate it, because I'm not sure if everyone knows who Otto von Bismarck was in real life, not just a Civ III figurehead.

I think I recently saw a thread similar to this in the General Discussion Forum. And, sorry to say, (not to be mean or nuffin) I doubt many people would be very interested in who he was, and a thread like that would prolly belong in the 'World History' Forum, where it might be appreciated. Although, on the other hand, if you make a handy lil strategy accompanying your history lesson, it may be enuff to attract ppl to it and not get moved by the mods. Dunno, just what I think...
I think we may be getting near the part where we learn about him in World Studies in school... He unified Germany, didn't he? *looks through World Studies textbook* Yeah, that's it.

Yea, he served as the first Chancellor of Germany. I believe.

I recommend to those interested the excellent book "Gold and Iron" by US author Fritz Stern, biographing not only Bismarck's political role, but also his very interesting financial maneuvers. Today, the SEC would come after him full force. But we don't have SEC in Civ III. :)

I didnt mean that everyone should know who he was, I was just saying that maybe I could use a better thread title so people would know what the heck i was talking about.

I usually do declare war myself on other civs, DiamondsandGunz, but if you are in a republic or democracy, your people will start to become more war weary. I remember reading in the manual (i think? i remember reading it somewhere) that if another civ declares war on you, it takes longer for war weariness to settle in. Thats basically why i think this little tip might be of some use to the people who like to play in republics and democracies. I myself perfer them because of the benefits of less corruption and +1 commerce in each square producing some already.

so if anyone wants to post this somewhere else with a more catchy name, feel free to do so. It would be best if a lot people knew about this because its helpful.
