Hi, I don't know how to cancel a treaty with another civ after 20 turns if they are not taking an initiative. For example, in a game I've been having a trade embargo with one civ against another for 50 turns or so. I would like to end this embargo but I can't figure out how to do that. Of course I could always start a war, but I guess there has to be some other way to do that, too.

When you contact the leader and say "lets make a deal", there is a menu below the main menu that will say Active and something else. Click on the active and it will bring up your active deals. Then just remove the deal and you're golden.

You can also set a preference to "always renegotiate deals", which will bring up a deal when it's done. You don't have to do this, of course.

Never enable "always renegotiate deals".

It means that you'll automatically renegotiate peace. Which means you're gonna either have to declare war on the AI's turn, or, every time you make a peace treaty, you have to stay in it for 40 turns unless you want to trash your reputation.

And just to be complete....
When you click on the "Active" button/label at the bottom, it will show
all your active deals, including the peace treaty. Click on the specific deal
you want to cancel, like the ROP or Trade Embargo. The others will
disappear, and you will be effectively "renegotiating" that deal.
Click on "Clear Table", and then on "Forget it", and your deal will be gone.

vorlon mi is right. just click the active button, select the mutual protection pact, etc., and hit clear table, then forget it. also, just a little trick I learned, is to renegotiate peace with the weaker countries... they'll often give you something, such as gold, a map, it all depends on your power compared to theirs
