I made a terrible mistake while playing with Russians in that Realistic Starting Positions scenario. Because I play with Russia, I had a great opportunity to colonize the Northern land masses of Eurasia. But: when I was going out from the Baltic sea with my galley, I had to go through the territory of German town Hamburg. I then suggested a free passage treaty with Germans. That was a mistake. Now Germans have a free entry to the Siberia and they yet have there one town. I have not found how to cancel this stupid treaty. Is the war and destroying the German civilization only solution? It will be hard to do. Any suggestions? What can I do? Siberia is mine!!! ;)

You can only cancel it peacefully after twenty turns. Go to the trading screen and select active at the bottom. Displayed will be all current agreements with that civ as well as the number of turns left. If there is no number next to the treaty, click on it and renegotiate. Otherwise, you will have to declare war, and your reputation will take a huge hit.

I think those twenty turns have turned out. Unfortunately. Germans have done very wise diplomacy: they have such treaties with all civilizations. I guess they invented their possibility to do so after they had signed the treaty with me. If I go to the war, my reputation will suffer and it would be difficult to create an efficient army, because my economical system is arranged so, that most cities are building wealth, and that's how I can maintain high rate of science. The war would: a.) destruct my economy or: b.) decrease the rate of my science. I'm afraid I can't decrease my science, because I'm already less advanced than the others. Difficult situation :(

My suggestion would be to switch to Monarchy (if you are not already), lower your science rate until you are getting a large amount of gold/turn, have your cities produce military units rather than wealth. Use the extra gold to 1. buy technology 2. sign military alliances with a couple of germany's neighbors after you have built a decent sized army. I would start by cancelling your right of passage with Germany. Then insist they leave your territory until they 1. stop coming in 2. declare war. If they declare war on you, your reputation will not suffer. You may have to spend a lot of money to get an alliance, but it will keep the Germans from focussing on you.
