How to disable civ3 intro video?

Is there some way to disable the civ3 intro video? It takes too long sometimes to change to the video's low resolution and go back, it is time wasten than could be used playing! ;)

I am using vanilla civ3.

Thanks!

Once you get the logo, you can hit the space bar and you will skip
straight to the game. In vanilla, this worked only at some points in the video and not others. In PTW it stops the video cold.

Firstly, welcome to CFC! :D

To answer your question:

In Civ3 delete (or better, rename) the movie file called intro_???.mov (or something like that). It is located in the Civ3\Art\Movies directory.

In PTW you can add the following line to ptw.ini:

"PlayIntro=0"

Of course don't add the quotes, but do make sure not to leave any gaps in it. The "PTW.ini" file can be located in your PTW directory (called CIV3PTW under your install dir for Civ3), and it can be edited with any text editor.

In vanilla civ, when the Infogrames logo starts coming up, hit enter. Stops it dead and you don't have to watch the movie over and over again. :)

Yes, I knew that I can skip the video, I don't watch it all the time ;)

I wanted to avoid the resolution change that the video demands, the suggestion anarres gave is what I wanted, I'll try it today.

And thanks for the welcome! :D

In which case Hitnrun, you may also want to try the following line:

"KeepRes=1"

This can be added to Civ3.ini in the Civ3 install dir, or in ptw.ini if you have PTW. It will keep your screen resolution when you play the game - it's amazing not having to play in 800x600! :D

But you have to restart the game to see the intro. :crazyeye:

Sorry but are you telling me that you are sometimes exiting from Civ3?

I last saw the intro video when I first ran Civ3. Than I couldn't exit from the game so no more intro for me.

Some people have really lots of free time that they can do other things. ;)

Hehe that's another ideia, never exit from the game!

But it wouldn't work for me, because I never exit the game, I always stop playing only when Civ3 crashes, and it crashes a lot... :mad:

Yeah, don't forget the resolution change to some crappy low res and back again with the video.

Yes, I am using v 1.29 (vanilla) if I remember right.

Ok, it is not a lot, maybe a crash every 4 hours... but ALWAYS at the crucial time :p

Aside from the time it takes to change resolution and go back, my computer is always busy with a horde of p2p and converting applications, so just for the video to appear it normally takes about 40 seconds... but in game the speed decrease is barelly noticeable.

Now that I renamed the video file, I can start my game in less than 10 seconds! :D :D :D

Thanks to all!

Yes!! I'm too lazy to move my hand off my mouse (or too busy drinking a beverage.... :beer: ), so I just click the mouse as soon as the video starts. MUCH easier than pressing space or enter.... :D

btw, isn't the video in the same graphics mode as the game? 1024x768 works for both (at least I thought!). If you are playing the game in less than 1024x768 resolution, you might be missing a lot during your playing experience.....

P.S. Sadly, that "clicking the mouse" thing ALSO works when trying to show off to your sons by getting them to view the spaceship launch. Mouse click kills THAT video, too.... :cry:

I think he's like me, and runs it at a higher resolution. The game is far more enjoyable at 1600x1200 or 1900x1440.

I find that even with a 21" viewable monitor anything over 1600x1200 is too small on the screen.

1600x1200 also means when you zoom out you can still tell what is what, higher than that it's all squiggles.
