I'm starting this thread with the hopes that someone will post a good answer.
I've sent out my scouts, and they report back to me no contact with any civilization!

Here's what I've done in the past week.

1) Joined Case's Ladder League. After searching awhile and ending up at several message boards that haven't been used since 400 B.C., I think I've found the current one, and am waiting for approval.

2) Went to Gamespy to hang out for games. Maybe I didn't stay long enough. Only game I found was some guy playing North Korea and really not a bonafide game.

3) Posted in the replacement threads for PBEM games.

4) Sent PMs to a couple of players that have been on this board for eons and eons, with thousands of posts, no response. (Shame on you. You were new once, too.)

5) Searched this forum for hours trying to find a game.

Is anyone else hitting a brick wall trying to find some human competition?

I keep sending the scouts out. I built The Great Lighthouse, and sent my Galleys out to sea. They haven't even spotted land yet!

Fellow newbie here....

How many turns a day do you expect? What level do you want to play at? I would be interested, but more than one turn a day might be an issue due to other commitments and timezones, and I am still playing at Chieftan (whatever the lowest level is), but would be willing to move up a level (or maybe two)...

Sorry, can't answer your other questions!

Hi Quarky,

One turn a day or in that neighborhood would be ok with me. That would be a good start to get a "feel" of how the PBEM games go. I'm sending you a pm with my email address and we can start a game!
Any type game is ok with me, you pick. I always play a random civ against the AI and so I'm not really partial to a particular civ either.

I would love to play, also. With three people it will move a bit slower, but be more fun.

Well, after a slight cock-up, my replacement conquests disk is in the mail. Should be ready to go in a couple of days!

OK, I am ready to create this game. If you guys can just confirm that you are still interested (and preferred Civ if you like, otherwise I will do it chose one for you!).

Going to set the difficulty to Regent, and add three computer players on a standard world, with continents, and 60% water.

Unless anyone suggests anything different!

Cheers

Hi Quarky, sent you the info.

I'm finding out that a little patience goes a long way.
There are in fact a lot of online ladder games going on all the time and it is pretty easy to get in on one.

PBEM is the same but just takes longer to play and get in a game.

Reading forum posts and subscribing to threads helps, too.

Doh! Sorry, I made you guys random.... At leas you will not be the Japanese.. Or English...

If anyone needs to send the game to the next person, but does not have the email address, let me know.

Blaze, thanks for you email about suggested rules etc. I am pretty new to Civ III and have not done PBEM, so open to suggestions. There is no space victory, so it will be conquest, culture or points I suppose.

The game has an admin password, so I can drop any players (I think), but what you do guys want to do in terms of rules on exploits?

Theryman, I understand it is your turn now (but you said you won't be able to do it until tomorrow so that is fine).

From memory, the playing order is:

1) Me (Japan (might be called Player in the game, I could find out how to change it)
2) Sidvilized
3) Blaze Injun
4) Theryman

Hey,

Well I have sent Theryman the save. Sorry about the mix up. I didn't have his email addy, thanks Quarky. Hope I did it right.

Now. Maybe this could be our thread. Or until a MOD. tells us different. We could ask. Turner is a very helpful MOD.

Second. Reading this thread by LouLong would be very helpful. Post #5 first.

IMPORTANT : When you finish playing your turn, what you must do is press enter to end the turn which in turn asks you if you want to save (click yes).
NEVER save using save from the menu, always end the turn with "enter" or "space".
(Used without promission just praise.)

This I did not do. So if Theryman can't play till tomorrow. I can send it the way it states above.

Since there is only 4 of us. We could easily have a set of rule in no time. Well before we can find each other on the map.

So here is my opinions on rules. We could all vote on any or use none of them.

Trading of techs. I like only trading in times of war. All others are by spying.

Treaties. Any way you want. Personally I like the must keep treaties for the full 20 turns. This puts a little drama in the game.

diplomacy among humans is complicated using the diplo page in Civ3 because unlike with the AI opponents, propositions have to come back and forth between the human players so it is much better to agree on a deal by e-mail then propose exactly your part sometimes even checking accept immediately (if both sides agree on the process) so that your transfer is an immediate gift and if the other player does the same you will get your part of the bargain immediately as well. (Used without promission just praise.)

That is a very good idea.

The Game so far.
Regent, and add three computer players on a standard world, with continents, and 60% water. There is no space victory, so it will be conquest, culture or points.

Turns.
1) Quarky Japan
2) Sidvilized Spain
3) Blaze Injun Ninevah Empire (sorry butThat is my Capital. Got that done but didn't pick a tech to study. O'yea real smart.)
4) Theryman Greeks
5) Hittites
6) Sumerians
7) Dutch

Damn I can ramble.

Blaze Injun

One more rule, no one can attack the Japanese ;)

Thanks for the post Blaze Injun. Very helpful.

Cheers

Good thread to read, Blaze Injun. Thanks. I'm ok with any rules as long as I know what they are (except for attacking the Japs..lol). My first PBEM also and so I'm winging it too. I was reading the turn order post above, and I was thinking to myself Wow, seven players, this game is growing....and then I realized that 3 of the players are AI....Hey, I'm just on my first cup of coffee this morning...

Hey,

Hope you all got the forwarded email that was sent to me by Theryman. What does everyone think of this being used.

Usually, there is a 2 or 3 turn window where players can decide if they want this map, or if there should be a restart. An all jungle start is not fair, for example.

I would not vote against a restart. But even in real life we all have gotten a raw deal before. I quess I'm saying I'm kool with the start.

Now. What is everyones gaming times. Use GMT. Did I get it close?

1) Quarky Japan: GMT
2) Sidvilized Spain: GMT-9? Washington state.
3) Blaze Injun Ninevah Empire: GMT-5 Anytime, computer on always.
4) Theryman Greeks: GMT-6? Cincinnati, Ohio.

Are we decided on 1 turn per day. Maybe it should be 1 turn every 2 days, with the option to up it to 1 per day later in the game.

I'm going to post a Blank post so the rules that we decide on can be centered in one post. :please: :please: Please put some input about your choices of rules here in the forum.

Sorry if these posts sound as if I 'm trying to take over. I'm just pushing the rock.

This is turn order and Rules.

1) Quarky Japan
2) Sidvilized Spain
3) Blaze Injun Ninevah Empire (Babs)
4) Theryman Greeks
5) Hittites
6) Sumerians
7) Dutch

Rule #1 All agreements (diplomatic) should only be done if and when they can be done in the game. In other words, don't make an MPP in principle until you have the tech and communication to do so.

Good work Blaze.

I am GMT. As for number of turns/day, I think we will have to play it by ear. I am on holiday next week (great timing!) but will try and keep on top of my email. I think as long as everyone tries to do there turn as quick as poss that is all we can ask for at this stage. Lets see how it pans out.

After I saved it, it said it was 3950. It was 4000 when I got it. Is this supposed to happen? Maybe cause I am last on the playlist...

Also, are there computer characters? I noticed some extra players...

GPSd.
