How to handle 20 pyre zombie attack early?

The only way I've found to manage PZ with equal tier units is by waiting for the stack to split. Once they 2 stacks are next to each other, killing the PZ in one stack damages the other stack. The best way to force a stack to split is to lightly defend a city and let them take it. Then you can kill the PZ on counterattack. You still need mobile units like Hunters or Horsemen at least though.
