How to handle custom Civs?

Your Viking Amphibians will be no match for the towering empire of the Nubian people. Just a few more days and you all will feel my wrath.

I am the Great Pianchi, Pharaoh of the Nubian/Egyptian people. If you think you can come get me in my mighty capital Jebel Barkal, and try your luck against the Batn El Hajar Worriors with their shields of gold and soficticated iron swords.

my danish roomate is pissed off -- he says the vikings are danes.
the vikings are the danish empire and controlled sweden, norway and parts of finland.

swedes and norwegians are vikings because of the danes.
furthermore the dane/viking leader should be 'King Gorm the Old'.

just his 2 cents...

You forgot Segovia! I visited Spain in the Spring and thought Segovia was a great city. Lots of history too.

Somebody should do the Irish.
Charlie could be the leader and Bertie could be one of the great leaders!

(You probably have to live here to get that one)

Fantastic original idea by crazy legs a while back on this thread: the Inca SU being an upgraded engineer/worker.
Well done that man. :goodjob:

The Dutch SU is, of course, an Engineer-in-a-boat that can turn shallow water into grassland. :)

Atahualpa never led the Inca empire, he was still fighting for control (probably winning) when the Spanish arrived. A better leader for the Incas would be Pachacuti who added much territory to the empire, or else Manco Capac who started the Inca dynasty.

Can you actually play against custom civs...I mean...crash free?

It took a lot of tweaking, playtesting and reading various threads in the forum but I've finally been able to add 4 custom civs and play against them all crash free. Despite all of the good tutorials on this site, I don't think one really captures every little detail you need to do to make it all work. Besides using the editor, you also need to modify the pediaIcons file, the diplomacy.txt (there's a real good diplomacy editor in the utilty programs section), and if adding unique units or new leaderheads: there's things you need to do to the art folders and once again pediaIcons and editor. Feel free to send me a message and I'll try to help you out.

I believe Expansionist in CivIII represents inherently peaceful attempts for expansion, particularly in the study of geography and wildlife of new areas. Hence the English, Americans, Iroquis, and Russians were deemed Expansionist. Since we ARE trying to fit things into a mould, this decription is only accurate in a limited way.

I always see Expansionistic as a peaceful (or at least non-warlike) trait to settle, tame, and learn the new lands. ^_^ needless to say all that would change if the Spanish and the Mongols were considered "Expansionist".
