How to increase difficulty mid-game?

Does anyone know a way to increase the difficulty mid-game so that you don't have to start over?

If not is there anything I can do to let everyone else catch up?

No, no way to do that.

Gift them your techs and give them money, rescources etc.

That will help, but it will still be easy.

Forego wonders (or at least limit the number you build). Sign plenty of MPPs and keep engaging in small, inconsequential wars.

Use Gramphos' multitool found in the Utilities section and edit your savegame.

is there ANY way to swap what civ u are playing? so u could change to another civ in your game?
