ok here we go:
i´m in a larg game with 1 big continent and 2 small isles. playing the reverse pope strate and doing just fine, but russia is far to big and getting on my nerves. so what can we do? their military is 50times biger then mine, don´t know where they get the cash couse they have to pay me everything for the techs, but anyway can´t kick their a$$ alone and none wants to make a military allience.
so here comes the trick: i made a protaction pact with everyone and sent some spyes over to rusia till they attacked me, so the other nations had to declare war on rusia and i could get the biger piece of their land:cool:
btw, normaly when i attack the others wouldn´t step on my side even with the protaction pact, is that normal? do i have to be attacked?

The chances an AI actually declares war when involved in a Mutual Protection are based on Culture/Opinion I think. I've had cases where I NUKED an AI civ and had nations goto war with him...nations that were involved in a mutual protection pact with both me and the one I nuked.

I've also had nations declare war on me for nuking someone else, even an opponent that they were already at war with...freaky!

I tested it a bit too, it seems to me that nations involved in conflicting mutual protection pacts will almost always side with the aggressor, provided that the there are no weird modifiers in place (Nukes, cities razed in the past, luxury or resource trades that would be lost, etc.) I attacked the Zulus and everyone around him went to war, I reloaded and didn't attack the Zulus, he attacked me instead on the next turn and everyone that attacked him previously attacked me instead...now it is possible that the AI traded to up his standing with the other AIs...they have more information in some ways than we do (AI looks at chart see that the French are +229 with the Babylonians, gives Babylonians exactly 134 gold to up his standing with them to +230 and then declares war on the French or something...)

Nice trick about the spies though :goodjob:
