does this ever happen to you. You have a common border with an AI civ, that is maybe "three cities long" and he declares war on another or your neighbors and his troops are tromping all over your lands, this civ may have ROP agreements with still other civs--and they in their turn are also roaming around. The dance usually goes like this, you keep asking them to leave, and they get more and more pissed until the chances of them declaring war on you becomes quite high.

If you're like me, and you avoid "foreign entanglements" there's an easy way to seal your border-assuming the length of the border is relatively short.

stage of the game: admittedly fairly late--that stage when your civ is fully railed and you have a large worker force--with lots of captives--and their primary function is cleaning up pollution.

Simply station your excess captive workers on the border squares, in some places they must be two deep--keep in mind that AI forces cannot move through your cities. When they are in place go to the diplomacy screen and offer the ROP.

and the award for captain obvious goes to......

Another idea for the workers, after you've got railroads is to send them to a tundra city and plant and chop down forrests. You can build a battleship in a couple of turns with a pop of 2 if you have enough workers chopping and planting in the same spot.
You can also rush culture in captured cities without spending gold.

If you made the workers into outposts they wouldn't be able to enter that square, would they? Not that it'd be much help, really. At least you wouldn't be paying the 1G upkeep, I guess.

Now, Now, ybbor you don't want to be labeled a "troll" do you? Maybe whstaff is new to the game and he just discovered this. Remember there was a time we all did too.

This tactic is well known ybbor, I usually use obsolete military units to seal my border so my workers can keep doing worker things, if I don't need them I build airfields and radar towers with them. Or if it's a particularly nasty neighbor I will seal the border with mech infantry x3 on top of a fortress with a barricade (barricade?? oops I forgot this isn't the conquest thread ;) .

As Sabo said, it would be a better idea to use actual military units, preferably placed on fortresses with barricades. If you somehow get into a war with that nation, you already have a fairly strong defense against them. Of course, if you're blockading every land route to their territory, you'll need to transport offensive units by sea. Not necessarily a bad thing.

I believe you cannot plant a forest in a tile that has been chopped...

The other way a one way ROP works is if you are playing on a high level and the AI declares war on a civ on the other side of you (the AI is very very strong) and sends a million units across your lands. It has been dubbed the "Deity ROP".

I could be wrong but I think a full patched game this bug was fixed. You only get shieds 1 time on a tile for the forst chops.

Oh yeah, I forgot the most important reason to seal the border with military units thanks GD!! You know how the AI loves sneak attacks :)

Most borders are long enough that you would need a fair amount of units to make an effective blockade. If you really have that many surplus units hanging around, just declare war and stomp on them.

once, just once i would like to have a rop with someone and surround all their cities with my units. this strat can be used against the rop civ by unabling them from moving troops out of cities (except for airlifting) and it would also protect them from invaders so that invaders would need to kill ur units b4 they can capture an ai city.
