How to poprush in democracy/republic

But is it worth it? You have one less tile to work (one less population), and a whole lot of unhappiness that lasts a long time? Normally late-game (ie post nationalism anyway), you don't really need to pop-rush. If I need some extra shields in a hurry, I may just make troops in one city (industrial city) and disband them in another.

Might be worth trying it though....

I tried it and int he long run it is cheaper to just use gold.
As explained by ainwood this is usually done in late game costing too much time to recover the lost population. Unless you had longevity.....I've never tried it that late though. Most of the time I've won :D

if you have more population than tiles to be worked the only thing you lose is one science/gold/entertainer. i woudnt use it all the time, but in the late game with full cities its a nice, even if small, bonus.

However with a full city you could have problems with happiness. I would admit in this instance it could be useful, but by then I have so much gold I can even afford espionage missions. :)

I have used a modified version of this strategy:

In my core cities that have nothing to build but units, I have them producing an infantry or artillery every 2 or 3 turns. then i send these units to developing cities and disband them there for the shields to build improvements.

I have used draft citizen a lot when I have a very good happiness situation. I rarely have had happiness problems with it. Disbanding drafted units in corrupt cities really helps to build courthouses, police stations, factories, etc. to make them productive places.

When I draft, these are from size 12 cities. I almost never build hospitals before I build mass transit as the amount of pollution in Civ3 is too much.

It's cheaper and eaiser to use gold

Yes, if your cities have already built everything you want them to, then put them on Wealth and in your other cities, buy the improvements every other turn or so. Less aggrivation, and is cheaper in the long run.

The DS, no mean to offend you but it's a pesim idea!! I'll explain it with hard numbers:

If your city is producing, say, 92 shields, you'll get 23 gpt, allowing you to "buy" less than 6 shields. But, if instead on producing Wealth you churn out Infantry (one per turn), and disband them, you'll get 22 shields per turn. MUCH better!:goodjob:

Just try it OK?

I see your point, and it's a good one.

At this late stage of game, though, I personally would find it easier to build the cash, because it lets me help out cities that are far away from my industrial center, on other islands, and whatnot. On a pangea with a ton of rails going everywhere, your strategy has only two insignificant problems: that of moving all those darn extra units and disbanding them each turn, and you will waste a lot of shields disbanding thsoe units. It has the wonderful benefit of letting you build an improvement every turn, whereas my approach requires you to wait a turn between buildings.

Thanks for the extra plans!

Portuguese people discovered for civilized powers all the coast of Africa after Bojador, South America before Colombus (Colombus was the "Last Discoverer"... :) ) and the Root to India (that open rootes with profits of 8000%, yes 80x) and Southeast Asia (Australia included, how it was confirmed by those 16.th century coins discovered there).

Portugal in 1520 had Brazil, all west Africa coast, and control of the kingdoms of East Africa coast, Persia, India, China and Japan.

Portugal ruled the world at that time, or because nobody was there, or because only primitives were there, or because local powers can not match portuguese gunpowder (like Japan, where 16.th century is known as christian century because of us), especially "naus", man-o-war precedents.

And Portugal exists for 870+ years and it has its currents borders for over 750.

SO, why are not portuguese civilization in the game? And why are some newbies like amerians, germans,...
:aargh3:

Portuguese, no. If you disband a unit in a city which is making a Wonder, you don't get any shields, so just don't do it

cuz they're better.

...and I put those coins in Australia a couple of years ago.

OK, Dumas. If you study a bit of history, you'll find out why were Portuguese important and decisive in history and in Americas discovery...

To Evincar: Even if you start building a building (palace, for example...) and you rush it, then switching to a wonder? Can't we switch to a wonder after disbanding a unit?
(I don't have a computer with CIV3 here where I study, so I can only test hip when I got home...and it is good for all to know about it)
