How to prevent mindworms from "disengaging"?

Hi folks,

just recently I encountered a strange behavior from some mindworms: If attacked by an elite infantry unit they often "flee" from battle after receiving 50 % damage. That´s pretty annoying, because I want to get rid of this pest within the same turn. This "cowardice" doesn´t happen if attacked by a rover unit (also elite). Any ideas how to prevent the mindworms from disengaging and force them to fighting "till the last man" (so to speak... ;))
Thanks!

Was there fungus involved?

Mindworms can move 3 fungus squares per turn. Elite infantry can move 2 squares per turn. Elite rover can move 3 squares per turn. Disengagement rules allow a defender with a higher movement rate to disengage if it suffers 50% damage.

Hi vyeh,

Was there fungus involved?

you got it! Battle occured within some fungus. BUT: I have already built the xenoempathy dome special project, which allows my units to treat fungus as roads as well. Therefore the elite infantry with a movement-rate of 2 should be able to "outrun" mindworms, shouldn`t they? On the other hand: If this is a firmly implemented battle rule, there`s probably no way around it, right?

Thanks a lot for trying anyway! ;)
Kind regards
