How to protect against the barbarian shadow

I do have to say I think See Invis is too uncommon. There should at least be one unit that does not require a specific religion or nation. I do think said unit should be limited like a national unit otherwise it would defeat the invis completely.

You mean a unit like... Hawks? :p

Honestly, Invis is way to weak and the counters way to strong / cheap / easy to get (real invis is Sidar + Spiders early, Ghosts midgame, shadows late. Hawks come as early as hunting as do Scouts against Spiders even earlier).

I for one think its the other way around and invis is far to uncommon given that the counters are nearly everywhere and cheap like nothing else. (20 Hammers at normal speed is a joke for a unit like that.) Furthermore invis Units get targeted by spells which makes them even worse. (that may be fixed should targeteted Spells be introduced.)

And yes, they defeat invis completely because of it. :( (At least in a players hands.)

The problem with the birds is then I have to take one every where and spam the use every round. Thats a lot of birds every turn. I'd like a unit (outside of the religious or bannor) that I can just stick in the key stacks without having to fly them around constantly. (what can I say, Im lazy)

As you also said the AI doesn't use it, so they need a unit like this as well.

The Malakim have that lightbringer unit, but even that one doesn't have the same capabilities of sight as the hawk does.

@ Adrogans: That i can well understand. And whould even be happy if hunting-birds whould just be nerfed to +1 Vision and see invis + current implementation of hawks put to a much later tech like commune with nature / feral bond or at earliest animal mastery. Even the last one seems overpowered though.
Because axing recon-missions for them in exchange for permanent scan of a small area whould actually make them weaker technically (even if it is a bit micro try to hit peaks with their recon-missions if you don't do that allready and have a peak nearby. That really helps reduce the number of hawks needed. Or just use it after losing units to a shadow. A bit losses tied to that but perhaps acceptable for the lazy ones like you and me. ;) Creation mapscript offers tons of peaks so its not such a big deal for me.)

As to the AI: Thats not set into stone. If it whould invisible whould be totally useless especially! vs. AI. And i am rather sure, one day it will. So we can indeed presume that the situation is that it could.

At late Beta-Stage FFH 2 is in, don't handle features as if they whould have been finished... The AI just hasn't been taught. Just assume a non-working feature isn't finished yet instead of trying to advise a way around it designwise.

To note: In my last game i have also witnessed AI Shadows en masse (and orcish + so many that its highly unlikely that they are just ex-enraged ones...). So the Barbs do spawn them if enough civs have reached guilds. So i can now confirm that AI indeed does use shadows.

Luckiely i had build Deis Dei so that was no problem really. :p
