How to reduce graphic settings?

Can anybody tell me how to reduce the graphic settings. I need to try that because my game crashes right before I get into it. It tells me It failed to allocate video memory.

Help please.

Poor poor you I have the excat same problem and I doubt it's about the grahpic settings since before the patch 1.61 I could run Civilzation perfectly fine.
Well without the cool performance enhancement
So somehwere here there is a Topic where people are trying to come up with a solution but I hope a patch comes soon that fixes the problem some of us are having with Patch 1.61.
I *hope* they do address this becuase I don't want to live in a world where I'll have to wait for a Civ5

The 1st place is in the game's advanced options menu (assuming you can get this far). Set Antialiasing to 0 and the 3 main graphics switches to Low/Low/Low.
In your civilizationiv.ini file find
; Allows some memory savings *** ALT-TAB WILL NO LONGER FUNCTION ***
MemSaver = 0
and change the 0 to a 1. As indicated there, alt-tab will no longer work while playing Civ.
Be sure your video drivers are current and your DirectX 9.0c is from April 2006. Use default 3D preferences in your video card's Windows control panel (no forced AA, etc.). Close all programs running in the background via their tray icons and such. Clear the hidden cache by holding the shift key during the brown "Loading" banner.
If you still have problems, run a DXdiag and post the report here in this thread. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

How do you update your Drivers?
I was trying to find out but I'm really stuck

Depends on what card you have. If nvidia card go to http://www.nvidia.com/. If ATI try http://www.ati.com/ and look across the top for the drivers link. You could if you have ATI try the Omega drivers, which are here, http://www.omegadrivers.net.

You usually download a exe file from one of those and it should do the rest for you.
