ok so ive been procrastinating fixing my computer for like 6-8 months now. i was always able to use it but if i ever did heavy programming or gaming my comp would overheat and shut down. well finally playing civ3 (the only game i could play without overheating) my screen went in line and then i turned off my computer. now i can turn on my computer and the lights go on, but then it quickly puts itself into the state it did when it would overheat, also my monitor (sorry if wrong spelling) never catches anys ignal from my comp now, nothing goes on the screen.

now i always thought my problem was i needed a new power supply and video card. well im about to uy them, but i want to make sure my CPU isnt friend cause its a good one and they cost a lot of money which i dont have

how can i tell if its fried?

thanks

What do you mean by this "state"? If the lights turn on then it is probably not your power supply. Do you hear any beeps from the speaker? If you hear beeps then at least the motherboard is probably ok. Certain beep codes from the speaker can be used to tell what is wrong with the pc.

no see the thing about the power supply is that i could use my computer, but as soon as i did some gaming or heavy applications that require more juice to work it seams as if the power supply couldnt do it and would short out my computer

and when my comp would overheat, itd shut off but the light would blink, you couldnt turn it on or off, youd have to unplug it and wait 10 secs to turn it back on

You might want to check and clean the cooling systems. As well as check the physical CPU processor itself to make sure that it's not warped due to heat and lack of cooling.

Normaly the BIOS would beep at you if somethings wrong.

sounds like a bad cooling system, if your CPU was fried then it probably wouldn't work at all. Though i suppose 6-8 months of ignoring the problem and letting it constantly overheat could cause damage.

if it is golden brown, crispy, and aromatic.

ok this is what i have done, i took out my memory and put them back in and re-glued my processor back on. my comp turns on but my monitor gets no signal from my computer, but my computer does stay on. I also get no beeps from the BIOS. now its not my monitor since i tried it on my sis's, and bros monitor aswell and it gets no signal. im about to buy a new power supply and video card. install those (i needed new ones anyways) and see if maybe that cured the problem then if all else fails ill have to bring it to a computer specialist. anyone have any input?

If you are getting no beeps it is more likely to be a motherboard/cpu problem, so I wouldn't waste my money on a new power supply and video card. I would take it to a computer specialist first.

melted silicon.
