Humankind - Indians discussion thread

In Humankind right now (well, as of the just-ended Victor Open Dev), one set of Diplomatic conditions are 'Allows Skirmishes' and No Combat. "Allows skirmishes" actually includes battles as big as they get in the first Eras of the game, whereas No Combat requires you to declare War to fight at all.

This might be the mechanic that the Indian Peacekeepers are going to work under. I can see a rule where the Indian Peacekeepers Force a No Combat Without Declaration of War on a Faction or Factions, and maybe even 'force' a drop in War Score (War Desire) to force parties to end a war diplomatically (a War Score of 0 on both sides seems to make it nearly impossible to get anything out of a war)

That would make them much more powerful than they are IRL, but then a completely ineffectual UN (aso IRL) wouldn't be much of a game mechanic, would it?

the final era has been garbage and generic all around, probably should be some sort of rpg choice where you don't choose your last culture but earn it

The Chinese as Merchants and the Egyptians as Aesthetes are far from generic takes on these cultures. And we don't even know how these cultures actually work considering no one has played the contemporary era so far. I don't think that's a fair judgment since no one has tried them yet.

If you are suggesting an rpg choice, how would you propose to do it? How would you include powers such as America, China and the USSR into the game?

It's much too soon to make any statement like this. In the latest Open Dev we didn't even see the Contemporary Age Tech Tree, Buildings and structures available to build, or modern warfare with long range artillery, air power, missiles, etc. We have only the vaguest idea how these Factions or their Emblematics will really work either in relation to each other or other mechanics in the late game.

My only objection to India having Peackeepers UU is that now if they ever add Canada in some expansion or DLC, we'll be stuck with the freaking mounties again hah.

To be fair, there are only a few options that would make sense in Contemporary anyway. For Civ, I was hoping they'd do Voyageurs or Coureur des Bois, but for Humankind they definitely would have to pick something modern like the Mounties.

I know I'm starting to get off topic, but if Canada is in later I'm hoping for the Rangers as an EU. Local militias, including large numbers of people from the First Nations, used to patrol the tundra, especially during the Cold War, plus with a pretty cool name. They could even ride little snow mobiles. As opposed to Mounties, who are just like, police on horseback.

Just to tie this back to India though, most UN peacekeepers come from third world nations. Western nations recently have tended to rely on their own military forces for international interventions, so even though Canada used to send thousands of people to serve as peacekeepers, India currently outnumbers Canada by a lot. According to Wikipedia, 5353 to 34 people sent as UN forces as of 2020.

I guess for them it was a very Cold War. :mischief: I'll show myself out...
