Also, it only has government aproved civics like Police state, Slavery, Bureacracy, and Free Religion

ummm "Free Religion" wasn't quite true in there too... think about Tibetian and Failunkun...
and "Bureacracy" is forbiddened in the name, happened to be named "State Property" while have all the "effects" of "Bureacracy".

In that case, America's only civics should be

Representation (since we don't actually vote for our commander in chief),

Free Speech (only forget the 100% culture points for having to be Politically Correct and not being able to scrutinize the so-called free market without being called a commie),

Emancipation (well... kinda... slaves to money and insurance companies make this an iffy thing),

Free Market (only corporations should get -%75 maintenance since the gov't subsidize everything for those as**oles),

Free Religion (of course with the caveat that you're some kind of Christian religion... or a Jewish person, everyone else gets scrutinized - even though 'officially' they're ok)

It's good that you've traveled and have seen China. At least they don't pretend to have free speech and free market. Ever been to the South East of America? Where WALMART, Best Buy, Home Depot, and chain restaurants have turned nice small towns into ghost towns with a mammoth Walmart in the Center (which was subsidized for just about anything it cost to put it there). As for free speech, remember the "don't taze me bro!" guy?

OK, now I'm confused... is that LH included in the Civ 4 Chinese edition? It seems to me to be Emperor Taizong (see the picture here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_Taizong_of_Tang).

If it is, I am intrigued that Firaxis would create a LH specifically for a localized release. I wonder why they didn't release him as an additional LH in Warlords or Beyond The Sword if the artwork was already done? Anyone shed any light on this?

spending 2 weeks following around a tour group through river boat rides and tourist traps dosent qualify you as an expert on chinese society.

i spent 3 months living in china with some family and i can barely even scratch the surface of nuances and complexities of chinese life.

I didn't follow any tour group. I've traveled many times, and if you follow a tour group, you don't really get to see anything.

Trust me, I saw many interesting things. My older brother has been living there for almost 2 years now. One of the most memorable things Was walking around shanghai and just noticing the vast difference between parts of the city. Just mind blowing.

Oh yeah, and grubs in a restaurant. But pretty much everybody has seen that.
