Is it uncommon that I cannot find any Uranium on the entire map?

I am 4 techs away from future tech, 1999, about double the score of second place, but I am about to invade Greece and need to lay a godsmack on the capital where a whole lot of enemy units are lying in wait - it would be a perfect way to begin what may be the final war to bring me to victory!

But for some reason, while every other strategic resource is in double digits, my Uranium count is still one fat goose egg.

This is really aggravating. Most of the other civs are in the modern era and wouldn't trade it if they had it - so that's out.

My navy isn't good enough to invade another continent, and I'm already fighting a war on two fronts (not counting the one I'm preparing to launch).

Any advice?

Get Logistics Stealth Bombers, missile cruisers and battleships to flatten your beachheads good.

Then move in with Mech Inf and Marines, then Rocket Artillery, supported by your Bomber units.

In the meantime, try your hardest to spot for uranium tiles. It should be somewhere on the map, especially now you have Satellites.

For someone calling himself Peaceful Civ, you shouldn't even look for uranium.

But, I never found one map ever without at least 3-4 sources, they may be way out on the boundaries of the map, or some CS will have some. Check your map again, if a CS got it, buy them. If it's on a useless island somewhere, send a settler there.

If you really don't have any on the map, please provide a screenshot, because this shouldn't happen.

I did exactly that, and little alex has been vanquished.

Thank you. :)

I eventually found some in one of maria theresa's smaller cities. I had to trade a fortune to get that city from her, but it did provide two uranium. I bought a nuke right off the bat to use against her, after which I got myself a GDR and keep using a-bombs (repurchasing after every strike) at various points on the map.

Close to victory, but I haven't found any more Uranium. I have renewed future tech about 5 times, definitely in the end-game - still, two Uranium is all there is.

As for the "peaceful" part, well... I can see the irony. But remember, if this were Civ 4, I would agree. In Civ 5 it's kill or be killed, sadly.

i usually check city states. it might say they have it but it's not an improved resource. which then means you have to ally them then pay 200g to improve that resource to have access to it.

at least there's recycling centers for when you are screwed on aluminum but not such luck for uranium.

But nuclear power plants are AWESOME!! :)

That being said, Uranium seems to be a quite rare ressource and is very depending on map settings. I think it never (or rarely?) shows up on great plains, for example.

Thanks guys.

That map's done - won it yesterday after about 12 hours total play time.

I will have to take your advice in the future. I generally stay in real good with City-States, it's just I've had no real luck getting any Uranium off them.

Thanks again.

I realize you've finished, but in the future, try hovering over a city, just had the same problem and found that my opponent had 2x Uranium, couldn'd find it anywhere, and one of his cities was built on top of the mine.

nuclear power plants.

Uh, yeah. Isn't that Iran's excuse?

In the late game it is not uncommon to be short on Coal, Oil, Aluminum, and/or Uranium. Typically you have to:

1. Get it from an allied city state. Oil is easy to improve (via a gift) but coal/aluminum/uranium is trickier. If that resource is on a non-mine tile, you can give 200 gold to improve it and access it but due to some quirks with the game, if there is already a mine on that resource, you have to wait until the city state researches the tech.

2. Plant a new city just to get access to the resource

3. Attack another player to gain control of the resource

4. You can technically use a Great General to try and nab one near your borders, but this is more corner case

In one game not long ago, I had to plant a city and then use a GG to steal a uranium mine from a CS that was hopelessly in love with my main opponent (forget who).

I had a game on a large map where there were only 5 charcoal spots, so I guess something with much lower chances like uranium could be non-existent.
