I enjoy reading about the different challenges people have tried in this and other civ games, and thought I'd propose a couple of "toughies" to see either if someone had done them or would want to take them on as a challenge. I'm not very skilled, so I thought I'd propose these to those who were. Though I might take a try on an easier difficulty level or with relaxed rules if I ever had the time.

All these would be on Transcend, blind starts, no pod scattering, no Diplomatic victory. Not sure if "rerolling" a given battle changes things in SMAC or not, but if it does, that's out too.
1. Economic victory
One City Challenge
Gaians
Huge map
No tech brokering
Low seas
Low native life

2. Scouts, gun foil, native life, formers, & transports only.
Huge map

3. No cities lost by player, or captured or destroyed by player. Normal size map or smaller.

3. Transcendence victory, no SP's built by player except Threshold and Ascent to transcendence. Captured SP's OK.

So if anyone wants to take a crack at these, have fun! If someone already has done this, I'd be interested in hearing about it.

#1 should be with CoP. Gaians don't have too much trouble achieving Golden Age and +2 Econ - it's pretty much impossible with CoP. Unless you're trying to go easy on people, of course.

#2 doesn't need to allow transports - IoDs can do the job.
