I declared WAR?!?!?

im currently playing a game, as japan, on a huge world map i downloaded from here....

however i seem to be constantly getting wars with Russia, and there for her allies every now and then.... however this time i checked it in the log....

aparently ***I*** declared WAR???? which caused everyone of my allies to pull out of my defence treaties, and for them to all hate me.

How did i declare war? well i didnt... all im doing is:

a: cleaning up australia from barb control
b: settling in pacific islands (midway and wake)
c: rebuilding after our last war.

luckly i was rather rich as i was saving money for a army upgrade later, so i managed to pay off some allies, but im getting fed up with constant wars that ***IM*** aparently starting.

however why did the defence pact terminate instantly, and why does everyone (my allies) hate me now?

Like it says a defense pact ends if you ever go to war. If you had one with more than one nation, they hate you because you are a deal-breaker.

Why does the defensive pact with the nation you're helping end as well though? If a second nation declares war on one of the nations in a pact then the pact no longer applies, which doesn't seem right.

Because the diplomacy engine can't handle negotiating peace with two civs at the same time.

Negotiating with more than 2 parties at once does seems to be a logical requirement if any kind of alliance or pact is possible.
