I don't have time for 400 turn CV..

I've come back to this game after a several month break to play other games (ie hadn't played since Fall Patch) and stepped back from Immortal to Emperor to try a few civs that I hadn't played much. My skill level was only low-mid Immortal at best..ie I could definitely lose on Immortal with a non-uber civ or bad map with any civ sometimes, and I am rusty, but anyhow the last 3 games were quickish CV's on pangaea or fractal maps so I'll share some tips.

All 3 games were my usual 4 city tradition and I never fired a shot at anything except barbs, being able to keep peace with few issues.

Just concentrate on science as usual as if you're going for SV but keep cultural and tourism in mind. Bulb GS's towards Internet is this is lots quicker than GS bulb to get all rocket part's techs. Build up capitol population so you can easily have all 3 GWAM buildings there and have National Epic and garden to help speed them up more.

My Morocco game (first ever using them and rusty) was a CV on turn 312. I put early GM's into Opera houses and faith bought two needed to end the game after Internet.
Of course a hotel and airport go into the best tourism city(s) quickly. National Visitor center helps also , although I won this game a few turns before completing that. Freedom which I almost always use has some nice policies for helping culture and tourism and of course specialists. Aesthetics completion is a big help, of course.

Next game was Egypt and a nice start and some wonder-mongering (Thebes had marble :)). This time I geared up for a CV and had more later wonders and their doubled theming bonuses. CN tower gave my 4 broadcast towers and they enhanced tourism +34% due to media culture. Game ended on 288 by one GM who shaved about 10 turns off the victory.

Next Egypt game was on Fractal and I had 2 great cities, a third very good city and a 4th good city. 3 best cities were coastal and since I felt that I was more likely to go for a SV and there was plenty of water on a long snaky landmass I went for Exploration and soon it's +3 production for coastal cities. To my east Sully was pissing everyone off and slowing all down while Gustav and Askia and Boudica had their issues with each other to the west. I got far ahead in science and was often able to build both nice wonders when I hit certain techs. Hmm...no aluminum and I remembered that rocket parts take twice as long to build or cost double to buy. OK time for a CV inspite of no Aesthethics. This time I was able to get Globe Theater, Broadway and others Volunteer Army from freedom boosted my military standing and stopped Gustav's grumbling. I won on turn 292 when a hard built GM entered Askia's waters but this only shaved 3 turns off the win.

In short, for a CV, play normally like for a SV and then bulb to Internet. Starting producing great works once your capitol can handle the slower growth. You may want to feed the cap with internal trade. One cargo ship was plenty in my last win. Theming bonuses help and you'll want aesthetics completed to also help spread tourism. Open borders and a trade route also enhance the spread of tourism. Shared religion helps, but can be difficult to maintain. In one of these games, I didn't bother to defend my religion at all since it was clear I'd be overwhelmed.
