[GS] I don't know why I can't build an oil well

I can't seem to build an oil well in water, I have no problems building one on land. Am I doing something wrong? I couldn't find any help in my in game using the help feature, and I've been googling this too but with no luck.

Have you researched Plastics? It's needed for offshore oil platforms.

The tech to build oil wells in water is unlocked by Plastics which comes later in the tech tree then the original tech to build oil wells.

Okay thank you kindly, I was trying to look for that, but for some reason the Civilopedia entry didn't make a distinction for technology requirements.

Probably the most helpful mod someone could create would be an accurate Civilopedia.

That would be a horribly thankless job, though.

Did they change the eureka for plastics by chance? Always felt like rubbing salt into the wounds for not having land oil that building a land well was the eureka to finally get oil from the sea.

civ 6 civilopedia is quite useless in general.

Oil well and Oil rig are two different tile improvements, if I recall right each one has their separate Civilopaedia page. That is why you won't find any information about the Rig under the Oil Well's page. I will have to double-check whether there are any references between the two.
