I was just looking around in the art and text files, and I found stuff on multi player, scenarios, and even a menu entry for a unit workshop. Just because it is in a text file doesn't mean it is in the exe. So, Firaxis, when are you going to turn some of this stuff on?

and I found this in a file

; Play the world
; text strings for the main menu
; Created: D.E.

YO! Firaxis! Whats up with this? ;-)

*yawn*

You can find some SMAC references in the files if you look hard enough. Its obvious that Firaxis just reused some SMAC code to set up the core of the Civ3 "engine"

like you said, just cuz its in a text file doesn't mean its in the exe.

(Ever notice, when programmers want to "fix" a thing, the first thing they do is start 'commenting out' their code? :) )

This isn't any big deal. It shows they planned to have multiplayer, and didn't get to finish it. Yet.

For me, it's more optimistic for a potential multiplayer mode that they have partial code for multiplayer.

i agree with you on that, 57%. it is a more optomistic sign. however, wasn't there a lot of problems with the SMAC multiplayer? i thought i heard something to that effect.

anyway, im confident MP will eventually make its appearance. But i dont really care -- i have plenty of fun playing Civ3 in single player and sort-of-multiplayer mode.

its fun to play GOTM style, everyone gets the same 4000bc save file to start with, as well as succession games (split up the 540 turns a few ways) as well as "Cabinet Style" -- works best in a pair of people, one person is the War Minister and handles war, the other is the Peace Minister and handles peace. Leads to a lot of "jeez man, what the hell did you get US (ME) into!?!!"
