You can only split if you have a pair, or 2 face cards. Your chances of getting the chance to split are under 50% initially, and even if you split face cards, your chances of a second split are under 30%, with a fresh deck (it could become guaranteed if you have a deck that has produced NO face cards and is down to the last 16... But that isn't even infinite since as soon as those 16 are up they shuffle and you are left with NO chance of another split)
