I hate Steam!

I'm not one to generally write a negative comment on the community forum about the makers of the game. I understand that there are trade offs to be made in the design process, and some of the features of a game are there to appeal to a larger audience.

What is really getting to me though is the use of Steam for CiV. Why would the designers require their dedicated fans to use this stupid service to purchase, validate, and/or update their game? The headache that is Steam should be avoided by the game development community like the plague in my humble opinion. Please do not release future games using this low rent service that causes nothing but problems.
