I know what I want in the 2nd Expansion

Forget religion. I want Vassals. It would add so much to diplomacy, the weakest link in the game, to be able to say 'I'll give you back your city but you have to ask me permission from now on to go to war with someone'.

Someday, hopefully.

I think I'd support a return of vassal states, but there were some really glaring problems with it in BTS. Most of those could probably be eliminated if they made it so, as you said, it was more of an "I get veto power over you" deal than "we're on the same team forever now", which is where the vassal system presented a good deal of frustration and a lot of raging over YouTube.

I'd be happy if vassals:

1) Could not declare war on you
2) Had to ask your permission to go to war (unless attacked)
3) Maybe gave you some meager tribute in gold, culture, whatever
4) Have to vote for you in diplomacy win

That's it. Nothing that complicated.

Maybe you could make it interesting by doing stuff like, 'they try to buy their way out of vassalage'. 'We'll give you 1500 gold and promise to never to DOW you if we can not be your vassal anymore'. Would be fun to give your vassal back their freedom once they weren't a threat anymore.

You know, forget vassals. Lets make this really easy. So easy they could do it in a patch. Just add two options on the trade screen: 'I will never DOW you' and 'I will give you my vote'.

That's it. I will give you 'back your city', '1000 gold', 'resource for x turns' for 'I will never DOW you'.

Would be VERY COOL. 'Diplomatic Vote' - 'What do you want for this?
