Is there any translators of FFH2 there on forums?
I want to start russian translation of that great mod, but while
I think, that I could translate text pretty adequately, I need some
help with tools for translation.

Maybe there is FFH translators team or something like?

There is a German translation team or at least some guys who take care about it. :D
I don't know about the other languages but, AFAIK, they are all one-man shows.

To start the translation you only need Kael's Editor which is a huge spreadsheet that contains all the game texts. Maybe he can send it over to you when you send him a PM and ask kindly. Concerning the export of the text to XML I'm not sure if the VBA script of the spreadsheet can handle the additional column of the Russian version. Maybe Kael or somebody else knows more about it. :dunno:

The editor is included in the mod folder. If you find the text sheet and make a new column for Russian, pm Kael and he'll see about getting it included in a future version.

Oh, OK, never seen that. Anyway, I'm not quite sure but the editor doesn't seem to be the most up-to-date version. :dunno:

I'm interested to help for some french translations and for correct some of its spelling errors(im a perfectionist:crazyeye:). How to be sure the team will add the work in the future versions? Do i need to send the entire XML folder? Where?

I think, black_imperator is responsible for the French translation. Maybe you should send him a PM with your offer to help. :D

You don't have to send the whole folder, just the "Civ4GameText_FFH2.xml" in the "XML\Text" folder. It contains all texts that are translatable.

Doc, please do not tell if you do not really know. The editor is used by Keal to make xml, so it is always the most recent one. One provided with patch L is from 5 july, so I think it is as recent as it could be. It is in the main folder of the mod.

As for the translation, you should not touch xml themselves. They can be edited, true, but Keal uses editor (xlsm spreadsheet for office 2007 - xls sheets with macro enabled, but you do not need macro for this). So, if anyone sends him xml with translation, he need to manually copy & paste it - much more work. I do not think there any reliable import methods. Editing spreadsheet is also much easier

So, the best way to make sure that translation is included is to write it directly to xlsm sheet text. If you do not have office 2007, I think there is openoffice version. I can also make a version for office 97-2003
There are problems with editor in older versions of office and openoffice, but I do not think it changes much in the case of texts.

Well, maybe you take a look into the file instead of pretending to know more than me. ;)
For example, the Sect of Flies unit is in that spreadsheet, also the Acrobat unit (both already removed). And there are columns for "German-Gender" and "German-Plural" which Kael wanted to implement during FfH2 0.30 but became superfluous and were never used. Furthermore there is no Spanish translation which was added in one of the patches for 0.32.

And finally, there is a way to import the XML into a spreadsheet via XSLT. I did it to include the Spanish translation in my XML because I'm working on revising the German translation.

I just did. Both units are out and Spanish translation (at least some of it) is in. Are you sure we are talking about the latest file? :mischief:

I know there is a way. But I still think there are less problems with copying a column from one file to another than with importing xml to xls.

Anyway, it was not my intent to offend you. If I did, please accept my sincere apologies. I never did a translation for FfH (though I am beginning to think of making a Polish one), I just thought that Nikis-Knight knows best what Kael needs, being a team member...

Kael often forgets to remove text keys when he removes something from the game. They are never referenced, so it doesn't really cause any problems but taking up a little more hard drive space.

That's why I mentioned it. :dunno:

No problem. :D However, I prefer the XML because it's easier to maintain the right encoding for Civ4 game text files.

I send him a PM but he doesn't answer, so i don't know if someone leads the french translation. And I don't want to go on an already planned project. So, if someone knows about the situation, he is welcome to tell me. (I already translate arturus pedia)
