Has this happened to anybody else? I own the entire map. Not a single other civilization or city state is left. But the game doesn't end? I keep playing but it won't tell me I won...

Is there some legitimate way this could happen?

There is an option in the setup screen (I forget what it's called). If that option is set then a civilization isn't destroyed until all of it's cities AND all of it's units are killed. Is it possible that option is set and a unit is hiding somewhere?

Look at your 'Victory Progress' screen and it should list the possible victory conditions. It's possible that you set the game up without any of the victory conditions available.

General Tso may have it- if you have set the game to Total Kill (or whatever) you need to destroy every unit of the opposition. It may have a Great Engineer or something circling the globe.

Camikaze could be right as well, of course.

I think that Camikaze is right and you might have all the victory conditions disabled or at least the "domination" victory disabled.

For a domination victory capturing the enemy capitals would be enough and it wouldn't matter that the rival civs are still alive as some units somewhere on the map.

Thanks so much for the replies! I checked the victory conditions were all ticked on, but I didn't check the Total Kill. I'll look for that...

Started another game anyways so maybe it just won't happen again. Thanks!

There is a very high possibility that you did win, and upon hitting the "just one more turn..." button, you have kept playing the game. Hitting the enter button too many times in a row could have easily allowed the win "window" to pop up and dissapear with out a "hiccup" in the game and you just kept playing.

I like to play duel maps with 22 civs once in a while. One time the Polynesians had their first settler killed, but their (ocean mobile) scout hid in the ice-caps and it took me the entire game to kill him.

I did not have "kill all units" ticked. If a civ does not get their initial settler/capital built, you must eliminate all their units.
