I really hate Aesthetics

Apologies if that's actually Sid Meyer talking about "art for art's sake is an empty phrase..." but he's no Leonard Nimoy, and it really annoys the heck out of me. What does it take to get rid of the sound effect?

It is Sid Meyer. But don't worry, everyone agrees that his voice-work on the Aesthetics tech is sub-par. The rest of the BTS techs (which he also voices) are okay, but it's a shame that the first tech he voices is so jarring.

Anyway, you'll have to mute the SFX in the option menu just before you get Aesthetics, or just hit Mute on your keyboard when it pops up.
 
I thought the tech voice work is done really well, and never knew untill now that it was sid that did them.
 
The tech voice work is mostly Leonard Nimoy. Civ's mastermind, Sid Meier, (unfortunately...) voiced the new techs added by Beyond the Sword. The original poster does not like his style of speaking for Aesthetics.

You can remove tech splash screen in the .ini, therefore getting no tech screen or quotes anymore. Bonus points if you've played so much that you can keep doing them by yourself after turning them off.
 
You can also place a different sound file in a mods sound folder for the tech.

I actually rather enjoy that quote! From what I have read, I think that is Sid Meier.

I was referring to both, actually. Knowing Sid Meier said it makes it better still, in my opinion.

Hm. Well, in total disagreement with most; I find Nimoy's voice, well, not annoying, but I would have preferred a long list of other folks over his voice. A change is nice.

To be honest I dont really care when I hear the sound that the new tech has been discovered I just click it off I have other things to pay attention to...
 
The one I hate, could be part of a mod but not likely, is the one where the quote goes something like: "Two of mankinds most troublesome creations...Romantic Love...and Gunpowder'. The last bit 'and gunpowder' is said so flat and completly out of flow with the other wording. I mean I understand it was supposed to be heard as bad, but why is it said so dang flatly. No emotion behind the word at all.

Anyways, I just cringe when I hear it.

Love Nimoy though, fantastic that they were able to grab him for the voice over.
