I just got the game today of the shelf (im in Ireland ). I think it was only released here today. I installed it. No problems. I go to run the game. The Sid Meier Civ 3 running screen comes up and the computer makes the usual noises.
Then the screen goes away AS IF NOTHING EVER HAPPENED.
I found out the problem ( from the readme file) that a new version of binkw32.dll, that came with the game, had to be placed in the folder the game is installed in (replacing an older version). I replaced the old file and went to run the game again with the same result.
WHAT IS GOING ON.
ISN'T THE GAME SUPPOSED TO BE WORKING WHEN THEY RELEASE IT.

I am not the greatest computer expert so if anyone has a solution or came across this problem please tell me in an idiots guide please.
By the way , yes my computer does have the basic requirements.

Probably the copy protection. I have to play using a NO CD version becuase my SONY CRX145E CDR drive is not compatible with Safedisk 2. Had the same problem with Startopia. Really encourages you to buy retail rather than pirate, doesn't it?

I payed 44.99 punts for it in Game. This is a legit copy of the game.
If I had a problem with the game and knew it to be pirate I would have said so if I thought it would solve the problem.

No, no, you misunderstand me. My copy is legit just the same as yours. However, Safedisk 2 is such a dodgy copy protection system that even genuine retail copies of the game wont run properly on some CD and CDR drives. Like I said, I bought Startopia but had to play that using a NOCD crack, Civ 3 is the same. My genuine retail copy wont work without using an illegal crack.

As I said, if thats the thanks we genuine punters get for paying for our copy, it really makes you want to be a pirate.

www.gamecopyworld.com if you want to download a crack that will work without this problem.

The real laugh about it of course is that the warez version has been available for a month or more and was cracked before it was even released, so the copy protection is useless anyway!

Can updated drivers help with some of the conflicting cd drives?

sorry about that Khrest.
Anyway i got the game to work. Like a fool I had tried everything and yet I ignored the readme file telling me the resolution had to 1024 * 768 (or something like that)

:spank:
