I Suk!

when i moved from warlord to prince, i skipped to deity, so prince seemed much easier.

On PRINCE i rule the world, and spare my hand from crushing my enemys so that the game does not end..... hey i WORKED hard to build my Empire.

But any higher, and i get wiped out.

I am OKAY until about 600ad, the problem is that as my Empire increases I lose track of what i was doing.

Especially FORTIFIED units, i will fortify a unit whilst it recuperates and forget about it......

AND I STILL FORGET THAT I NEED VETERAN UNITS to take a CITY.....

Three notes to thx1138:

"I am OKAY until about 600ad, the problem is that as my Empire increases I lose track of what i was doing."
--Okay, try renaming cities. Name your capital city "Capital." Name your Super Science City "Science City" or "SSC." Name the city where you're waging a war with the Souix "Souix front." If nothing is happening in the northwest corner, but you have a city there, call that city "Northwest corner." It could help.

"Especially FORTIFIED units, i will fortify a unit whilst it recuperates and forget about it......"
--I assume that this is out in the wilderness that you fortify recuperating units? That's a good idea, though remembering them can be a problem... Get into the habit of scanning the map for things like this before starting to play your turn. It also helps to use "Game: Options: ENTER at end of turn" or something like that... You can have another chance to make sure you know what you're doing before you end the turn.
Also, you might want to think about what you're doing with this unit. Was it exploring and ambushed by barbarians? Generally, I don't bother letting those units recover unless speed it an issue. If I do, I only wait until they are in the yellow. If the unit was on the front lines of a war, you might want to just keep it near your other units and just have it follow them up to whichever city you intend to conquer. If your other units can empty a city of units, the weak unit gets full hitpoints when it takes the city.

"AND I STILL FORGET THAT I NEED VETERAN UNITS to take a CITY....."
--You don't always need veteran units. A regular catapult versus a city without city walls should be able to take down most anything in there. If you're sending regular archers to the front lines, I can see where the trouble is, though...

Hey that isn't a bad idea, i'll have to try it!

Also here's the advice of someone who could not succeed on King until he understood the importance of these two things.

TRADE-its super important, ask anyone who plays at king or above, money buys happines. When you begin playing king you start having serouis problems with unhappiness, the easiest way to quell that is to set you lux rate at about 30%. You never had too on prince because it was prince. Try sending out about 20 to 30 profitable caravns to increase trade, build all the roads you can, and make tax collectors. If you do all of this successfully you should improve part of your game.

The other important thing to remember is to expand. there are many forums in here that talk about the importance of expansion(go find them) they talk about the super-expansion technique(which is also is Tszu Tzu's <-

war acedemy) and all kinds of stuff. If you want to know how to get over 20 cities before 500BC go there.
Expansion is IMPORTANT you have to learn how to do it to be successfull!!!
