In my current game I am trying to take over an enemy city, his capital to be exact. Every time I take it I leave all my troops in the city to help quell the resistors.

The city is size 12.

I leave 14+ units in the city.

I am overthrown and my units slaughtered every time.

WTH?

What ever happened to martial law?

The enemies citizens are better at spanking my butt than the enemy is.

Anyway to deal with this?

what type of gov are you using. monarchy or comm... you can use troops for marital law. Rep and Democracy, I don't think you can. Also, try taking all resistors and making them entertainers. In fact you may want to make your food production negative for a few turns to remove some of the troubled citizens. Build workers or settlers, etc... anyway, when you have a size 5-9 city, then allow them to start producing food again.

Also, try to rush build some things like temple or library to start your culture rolling.

Taking over big cities can be pain.:crazyeyes

So far I have NOT had a problem. What I do is shut off the governor, STARVE the city. As soon as I can, rush build a culture item. Even better under depositims, when you can kill more citizens. You want to get the city small quickly.

Carefully planned bombing runs prior to taking the city. :goodjob:

Yes, but after you bomb a city to the point where its small enough everything is gone including any wonders and 90% of the population. You might as well raze the city.

I haven't got accurate stats on this as far as what ratio you need, but I've found that an effective tactic is to bring along some settlers/workers when you go attacking.

When you take over an enemy city, especially one from a nation with superior culture to yours, sending the workers and settlers into the city and adding themselves to it ('b' command) will add citizens of YOUR nation to the city and help keep it loyal.

Hope this helps.
