This sounds pretty sick. That's probably exactly the reason why they didn't put in a ww2 europe scenario, because they won't want to give the opportunity to play civ3 as Hitler. I'm sure the game would get lots of negative publicity if it would be possible, and that's not what Firaxis is looking for.
Well they did it for Civ II... And it was really interesting much more interesting from the European point of view than pacific WWII... Not necessarily playing Hitler but also Churchill, Franco, Stalin...

In WW2 Pacific they don't mind you playing as Tojo who treated our, or American pows like dirt. And if I remember correctly you can't play as America in WW2 Pacific because some French people (I could have said worse) might be offended. If they wanted a Blitzkrieg they could just disable playing as Hitler and I'm more offended as playing as Stalin because he killed even more people.

What's wrong with playing Hitler? I loved Civ2's European ww2 scenario, and I played it from every point of view.
The Pacific theater would be a lot less interesting as a Civ3 scenario IMO.

It would be great to have a WWII scenario, but not for the same reasons as those mentioned in the first post.
As far as i am concerned, i would like to see the shermans, tigers, T34, stukas, spitfire, etc. all in action.
It would be just a wargame, like any other civ-scenario where one would enjoy himself.
That's the spirit we should keep in mind, whether you play Russia, Germany, France, England, whatever... It's a game after all, in which you end up killing your opponents whichever civ your playing

You are all bieng a little too sensitive and give Jon a break. But since you all want it your way I will begin disqulaifying anything from civ that might offend your (or anyone from any pioint of view) bleeding hearts...
America- killed alot of Indains so they are out.
Mongols- for one killed 20 million in India because all the poor
people there were a "waste of life," and the name of they capital is hard to pronounce so they are out.
Romans- killed at least ten million in Gaul alone, and their robes ofend me, gone.
Germans- see above
French- caused two world wars, kiss with tounge, and have those ridiculous accents, DELETED.
English - wouldn't want to alienate those Irish consumers, goodbye.
Zulu - I think alot of us racist americans (another reason not to have America, jeez El Sop now that I have adoped your way of looking at things I am ashamed to be one) would not like to be beaten by a civ with a black leader. gone.
Chinese- well there are those 200 million who starved to death because of him (Mao), but really a name with three letters, two bieng vowels, give me a break. See you around China.
Ottamans - Changed the name of Constantinople to Istanbul, unforgivable, be gone....
You know what El Sop, I am going to start a movement to personally remove CivIII from the gaming community. I am as we speak (after I finish cleaning up after the hurricane of course) burning my CD and invite all of you to finish it. It is just one big load of offensive material.
Do I need to be any more sarcastic? I agree with you Jon, I would love to play a WWII scenario from all points of view to include Germany, as would the majority of the Civ community, don't pay any attention to the PC warriors, they just like giving people a hard time.

Yeah I think you guys are overreacting. Jon said he wants to do what Hitler couldn't do... Hitler could and DID kill people. What he didn't do it defeat the USSR and Britain. Why do you assume right away that he means something evil. In my opinion WW2 in Europe is the best scenario from Civ2 and they should haev it again.

First of all to anybody who believes America is racist, isn't more racist to have minority hiring policies and scholarships just because they are black, hispanic, or arab? And most of the Indian killings were done by settlers before the USA was a country and the only tribes attacked by America were violent tribes. We are all way too sensitive and I would definently play as Germany in WW2 because who wouldn't like driving the Panzers, flying the Luftwaffe, and marching the Wehrmacht?
EDIT: And I was just joking about the French being offended by playing as America in another war in which we kicked butt! Maybe the review I read just forgot to mention America as a playable civ. We will just have to wait until the release.
