Icebergs?

it could be some kind of way to get rid of enemy ships that are chasing yours. You go close enogh to a iceberg and then it is a % chanse of sinking. If you make it iether your oponent have to take a shot at it or take a way around the iceberg and lose movement points... :)

I'd say that your ship unit would have a percent chance of losing a health point. An iceberg can't sink a fleet

And there's just the question left: WHY? :D

Because of some other reason, a storm, a mutiny, getting lost. Very few ships sunk becuse of iceburgs. Or you can have iceburgs as a global warming effect, if you launch too many nukes, causing the poles to melt.

I second that.

i very strongly 3rd that...a hurricane...or mutiny on ship at sea for to long is a way bigger problem then iceburgs...it would also be cool if we could lay out mines along harbors and such

They could simply be a sea terrain that is impassable until modern ages (to prevent the trireme that uses the Northwest passage)

Overall increasing the movement of ships but increasing their chance of loss (I'd say early ships should have a chance of being lost whenever thay are not in port) would be an improvement to the sea system.
