heres an idea put some better quotes in the game, sure the ones now are good, but some of them dont realy relate that much to the tech that its on, take a bunch of lines from documentaries and put those in there (discovery channle, history channle and so forth)

Okay, anyone know how to get Leonard Nemoy to read the lines? :p

i ment just like rip the sound from the documentaries

you mean have quotes read in the language of the speaker? no im just thinking of ..... well what i already said

It could be also interesting to have quote read on original language, like "L'etat c'est moi!"

The problem is: how to install other language version?

That's actually a pretty cool idea. I haven't delved too much into the sound files, so I'm not sure how it pulls them. If it simply pulls a unique sound file for each quote, then we can have native speakers of the various language (or those that can pass for it...) record a sound file, and pack them all together with the proper file names. That way, when it went to play back Mr. Nimoy's VO, it would play the one we supplied instead.

Very easy to do.
just look up Assets/Sounds/Tech and all the techs are there names tech_name.mp3.
I guess you just replace.

I'm sure you can easily edit the XML files too so it reads the correct quote.

But how do we make Louis XIV to say that? Someone who sounds like him perhaps? I have this friend of mine who's an actor, but he doesn't speak French. Even old New York was once New Amsterdam.

you guys are departing from the topic, im not asking for quotes in speakers language

Erm... how did Louis XIV. speak?
Well, of course some form of French, but there are french people hanging out in this forum and there are french forums for civ 4, so that's not an issue at all.
Same for german, if you want to quote Einstein i.e., or someone from another country can be found too (and latin is no problem either).

Sorry evirus, didn't mean to hijack the thread. I think what you're looking for, and what the others are discussing are essentially one in the same. If they can do what they're talking about, it could be used in the same fashion to do what you're wanting.

If I get the time later today, I'll see if I can't dig through the files to see if I can find the correlating files.

Some quotes are really stupid I think and should be replaced even if there is not sound. I think the top 2 I hate the most are, "do not throw the arrow which will return against you." because it doesn't make sense to me and, "you cannot adjust the wind but you can adjust your sail." because its so freaking obvious it just seems so stupid to even say.

the arrow one is talking about the greater damage you can do with a bow as opposed to just throwing an arrow, meaning that their less likely to throw it back.

did spock do the quotes in different languages for the game? if so you should be able to dig up the files from the cd if its multi language, didnt take the install to memory

Well... you're going to need a car with a big trunk, some chloroform and his address... and a sound recording studio if you want high quality sound results.

I'd offer to help but I'd be violating my parole by handling a burlap sack and/or duct tape.
