Idea: Better Tech Diffusion

I don't know if anyone here has played Realism: Invictus, but they have an amazing tech system. Basically there is no trading whatsoever, everyone must research techs independently. However, it models the way in which technology spreads in real life, through a slow diffusion. The more other civs that already have the tech, the cheaper it becomes for the remaining people to research it.

I know this might sound like it means that techs are researched way too quickly, but the system is really good at modelling it. It actually works out that techs spread even slower than when you can trade for them, and it has a much more realistic feel. It also adds another level of strategy as you consider what to research and when. It can actually be quite advantageous to be the last person to research a technology, because it will significantly reduce the time you need to invest to get it. So you need to consider, which techs do you want to pay a premium for to be the first, and which do you not mind coming in later for a discount?

Anyway, I don't know if it is feasible to include it in this mod, but it would be nice to see! :)

There is both an option to disable tech trading (or just tech brokering, meaning you can only trade techs you researched yourself, not traded ones) as well as to disable tech diffusion - so I'm not sure how tech diffusion works in C2C specifically, but the system already seems to be in - maybe it needs tuning?

Tech diffusion in C2C isn't the same as it is in Realism Invictus. A good example is when most other civs have already researched a tech, even if it is a tech that would normally take 20 turns, you could see a reduction to as low as 3 turns after awhile. It's just a more realistic tech diffusion.

As it is if you turn off brokering (which I always have off) AND trading, it makes things a little unbalanced in the sense that the technological power houses can get light years ahead. Others get a little boost, but not much. Whereas with Realism Invictus those who focus on technology can get the pleasure of being the first to techs, but they can't hope to hold on to that advantage for an indefinite period. The diffusion also works by spreading faster to those closer to the civs that have researched the techs. All in all it's a complex and awesome rework of research.

Since we have a version of this, while it could possibly use some improvement, I wouldn't put it high on my own list of priorities. That said, it does sound a bit better and if it were a simple merge (in otherwords, extremely well marked in their codes,) than I would eventually consider importing it.

No worries! I have little idea about Civ modding, so had no clue how easy/difficult it might be. Thanks for the response. :)

well if you have no experience at all than it will(depending on your'e area of modding and learning the various concepts).
