Idea for the Mongols

If they were at war with everyone, wouldn't that make them too paranoid to move their units out of their cities? Then again we are talking about tons of units...

Well presumably there wouldnt have meet everyone at the time.

So they would only know there at war with China,India,Russia,Persia

They could be set to declare war on every civ they meet as long as Genghis is in charge. That's pretty much what he did...

It is still very difficult to simulate people like Genghis Khan and Axelander the Great in RFC because of the movement restriction. Spawning all of these units in multiple places would IMHO make it not as fun because if the AI is set up in a position where they can achieve this huge empire, a human could easily take advantage of this. One solution is to make them unplayable like the Celts, but I would rather have somewhat historically inaccurate Mongols than no Mongols at all.

EDIT: I do like Úmarth's idea with declaring on everyone that he meets though. It will help make the Mongols a little more aggressive towards China and Arabia.

It is not inaccurate to have a Mongolian civilization. The cities they captured and kept became the foundation for their Empire. All we need to do is make it so they can not build settlers, give them one settler, and a ton of Keshiks to start off with.

I've increased the number of starting Keshiks to fifteen, made Genghis even more (!) warlike, and increased his BuildUnitProb to eighty, while reducing Qin Shi Huang's BuildUnitProb to fifteen. In 600AD, at least, Mongolia now usually conquers China, but still never makes it to the Middle East in anything approaching an historical time-frame, and doesn't attack Russia at all.

Would increasing the Mongols core area make them conquer more land?

I don't think so, that would just make them more stable when they conquered those areas. But I do think that changing their settler maps to more highly prioritize areas like the middle east, khorasan, crimea, etc, their empire would be more impressive (yet not stable, which is 2 in 1).

Russia in game is a bit of a strange civ; its location, UP, etc match with the Muscovite civilization that rose in the 13th and 14th centuries recovering land from the Mongols. What the Mongols attacked was Kievan Rus, which is what the spawn date of Russia indicates.

I do believe you are correct

In my Japan game, the Mongols spawned, promptly crushed an unstable China and kicked me off of the continent.

Was an unpleasant surprise, considering I was playing a relatively relaxed low-difficulty game.

The Khmer and India held out, with Mongolia ending up as the "United Mongolian Democracy" or something in the 1900's, comprising pacific/parts of Siberian Russia - with China/Korea.

It wasnt the strongest power in the game, though - but it was an interesting and fun turn of events.

I've yet to experiance the Mongols be a strong civ.

Most I've ever seen them conquer is the northern half of China, and then peacefully expand through Central Asia to the Caspian. Mongolia in the late game is often ridiculously huge, especially since Russia never makes it more than halfway to the Pacific anyway.

I would love to see this implemented.
