Idea: Up-gradable Generals and Admirals

So I just came up with an idea. In order to buff the power and usefulness of generals and admirals, we made them gain rank with every battle? Similar to how units gain promotions, generals and admirals could gain xp to select different promotions. These "promotions" would act like auras, buffing all units within range. Some basic ideas.

General:
Stonewall: All units gain a 25% defensive bonus
Ambush: Units gain a 75% flanking bonus when attacking or defending from a unit on an OPEN terrain from a ROUGH terrain.
Vigor: Units heal 15 (5 for ranged) damage after attacking.
Power: 15% bonus inside enemy territory.

Admiral:
Barrage: 25% bonus attacking land units from sea.
High Seas: 20% bonus in ocean
Plunder: 35% (15% for ranged) bonus against cities. 60% increase in gold from raiding a city.
Captain: Units gain 30% more experience.

Any thoughts?
 
Uhh, most of those bonuses seem way too powerful. Maybe reduce everything by a factor of 3.
 
Some of these could be quite overpowered in the right hands, as opening honor will give you a free GG right at the start of the game, giving access to those promotions a lot sooner. The Great Admiral ones look pretty good, though.
