Ideas to improve endurance (exercise)

 What about you girlyman, why do you like soccer? Non-contacts sports ftw huh? :p

Hey, if you want to "contact" large men at high speeds, thats your business.;)

Dont ever ever ever play soccer. Soccer is for girls and foreign men, which are a interchangable now that I think about it.

Play football. Builds up endurance of all kinds.

Hahahah...well, play football if you want to stand around and rub your crotch while only really playing a sport for about 4 minutes during a three hour period.

And actually soccer is quite a physical contact sport. Soccer is much better at building endurance as well, considering you are running for 45 minutes straight.

well i run for really long periods of time and i was on the football team it is a very good way to build endurance running suicides and you got all that armor on i love it

"Effort is best displayed by projectile vomiting."

Get off your lazy ass and exercise. Its not rocket science. If you are a fat ass, work out till it hurts, then work out some more.

Run around a science convention with a katana for two hours killing atheists!

Get a bicycle, and take that when you're going somewhere, instead of a car or a bus.
If you cycle for 30 minutes you will get were you're going (i e no "running in circles"), and get better health.

The majority of American football players wouldn't last 5 minutes on a football (the real kind) pitch.

So in a sense, when I run full speed (and in analogy to a Train or a Plane) at 100% I use up all of my energy quickly and place myself in a "stall"?
When you run full pelt you are exercising anaerobically, which is much less efficient, hence you cannot sustain it for long (you break down glucose for energy in a different way). Go slow and try to go for longer. Once you can do 20-30 minutes at a gentle jog you'll have enough fitness to try increasing your effort. Don't run every day, your muscles need time to recover, go every other day until it gets easier.

Very true. Half hour each way = 1 h workout every day. Increases lung capacity as well and is low impact, low chance of injury. So long as you dont crash.

Its not a non-contact sport. Especially as played on the concrete pitch in the inner city.

Awh the poor AF players need body armour in case they hurt themselves? Dont see the rugby fellas needing pads...

Perfection has the right of it. If you truly want to improve your endurance run for longer periods of time. Set yourself goals. Example: if you can only run for 20 minutes while jogging set a goal to run for 25 minutes non-stop. Or you can set goals for distance as well, but time is usually better in my opinion.

Also, as for speed, if you want to train to run say a 2 mile run as fast as possible....train runnning 3 miles....2 miles will then seem easy.

Well yeah all their stuff sounds really good I think I shall take some of these ideas myself. Another idea is to do Karate stuff, for example I take Aikido and we sometimes use a wooden sword called a "bokun" spelling prob. wrong, but I could get alot of exercise by doing like a hundred shoman cuts every-day. Or you just do lots of falls, or turns, or whatever one person moves your martial art has. Also doing falls on carpet instead of a matt helps build endurence.

I loves ya MjM but football is not going to improve ones endurance. Football barely requires any endurance whatsoever. The pause play every twenty seconds or so. American Football may still be more manly than soccer but it's an absolute tea party compared to a game like rugby (where there are far fewer breaks in play and don't wear all that padding to protect their delicate bodies ;)).

I agree with Perf's advice. Train longer for more endurance. Also eat in moderation (excess weight will slow you down).

Also, refrain from too much "self-stimulation" (if you know what I mean). You're have more fire if you train before this (perfectly acceptable and non-sinful) activity rather than after (try it sometime and see if I'm right).

Maybe some breathing excersises would help too. I've heard learning to breathe more thru your nose will improve your endurance long term (though it may slow you down in the short term while you get used to it).

Indeed, Rome was not built in a day.

One need not run for their entire exercise period, in fact most training advice has the beginner alternating running with brisk walking.

Check out this link, a great way to start

Running is only the best way to build endurance for..... running.

High intensity circuit training is good (this could include some running, sprints mostly).

Building endurance is too broad a goal to develop a good training program for. Get more specific goals. If you want to be able to run long distances, then train by running long distances. If you want to be able to move heavy objects for long periods of time, train by moving heavy objects. If you want to do something, train by doing that something.

I'm telling you guys, there's no total body workout like tennis, or karate.

An hour of tennis and i'm more beat than after two hours of football.

Hey, I just said that I am currently taking Karate and I hold a 2nd Kyu Brown Belt ;).

Yeah, but you mean American football. You want a workout, play 5 a side footy (the kind the rest of the world plays) on a small pitch.

Of course, if you really want to hurt, do a 2k piece on a rowing machine.

Can swimming be used to increase endurance?

So far I've got biking and jogging and both are not good in this bloody weather. Are there other sports for endurance that can be practiced in winter?
