If Alpha Centauri 2 would ever Release

Depends on if they want to advance the story or make a remake.

A continuation of the history idea: I think that the human factions, after they reached a very advanced level of technology and erradicated the Progenitors from Planet, they would probrably try to go and seek to make a pre-emptive strike against both Progenitor factions. Maybe a next game would show a large military expedition sent to a Progenitor planet in full-on civil war. As they awake near the planet, the Space-Jets would go on and engage the Progenitor fleets. The main craft's crew awakens and begins to discover the plan to defeat the Progenitors: Bombard the planet's surface with Singularity Planet Busters, eliminating Progenitor presence from the planet, paving the way for human colonization and invasion.

As the crew learns of this, they struggle with the idea that their mission is to comit genocide against another sentient species. Some believe it's either us or them, others believe that it's utterly inhumane and the discussion goes on while the human fleet engages the the two factions and their fleets.

A battle begins to happen in the flagship. In the end, the ones loyal to the mission manage to launch many Planet Busters upon the new planet, but the battle inside the spaceship goes to worse when a Progenitor missile hits the ship, forcing the crew to drop into the planet. The human fleet destroys the Progenitor fleet and many pilots are forced to choose which drop pods to escort. End result?

The planet is mostly devastated and it's ecology changed forever by the atack. Both Progenitor civilizations are erradicated. Human factions have droped into the planet, warring with each other.

However, the Progenitors are down... but not out.

A new AC game would be great, but here are my possibilities and ideas:
1. AC2 is going to copy the idea of AC1, but it may make slight changes and they there would be more tech, more factions, way better graphics, perhaps more types of alien lifeforms, etc.
2. AC2 is going to be completely different, perhaps relevant some of your ideas. My idea is that I'm thinking that it's like planet systems. The progenitors and Usurpers have their own Planet empires, each human factions will have their planet empires, each planet will have local aliens, which may be minor factions that ar not so strong. The locals, depending if you are a kind person or mean or they hate your type of administration of government, they'll either fight you or allow to colonize. Some planets may be uninhabited or spiritual, like Voice living in the Planet. I reckon that this sort of new AC2 would plan to go beyond AC1, the factions still exist and they'll spread to other planets. There will be space bases will garrisons, facilities you can construct, etc. and there may be bases built on land with the locals. I would call it Alpha Centurai: universal conquer. If you hate it, fine, I don't care. :p
3. There will be no AC2 because the creators think that AC1 is perfect and perhaps may not be further perfected. I don't think a new AC2 would come out. Since civilization has been frequently "upgraded" 4 times from 1-5 including mods and add-ons and AC has only been upgraded once (I may be wrong), if there is no live development on Aplha Centurai, then there will be no AC2.

I was thinking about Alpha Centauri 2... IMHO, they should use the same model of development Stardock uses: Small team, good game, no DRM, not a lot of sales but a lot of money gained from them.

I ask again; why are we in the minority? Why has the market for space strategy games collapsed in the face of the multiplication of derivatives of shoot-em-up when we know there is a substantial market crying out for SMAC III? :(

SMACIII? II would be nice enough. As to the reason - I believe it is because EA games (the owner to the license of SMAC) is so crappy. :wallbash:

Many thanks, Maniac! I am!

I am downloading the appropriate files and will then cogitate as to whether the risk of buying Civ 4 to give me an update on SMAC is worth it?

Well, is it, anyone? Does it work?

Live long and prosper.

K... I have downloaded the Planetfall MODs and hopefully successfuly installed them.

How do I access the Scenario?

What Scenario? You mean the mod? IIRC it's Advanced->Load Mod. Or you could just click the link icon included in the main Planetfall folder.

The name is Christopher, or Marcus when I am emperor!

Thanks for responding, Maniac. :)

OK, I know how to access the Advanced option so I guess my next question is what is the name of the Planetfall Mod?

If it is Planetfall, I can't access it.

I did extract the MOD and I can see it in Windows explorer. BTW, I have Civ IV complete, including the Beyond the Sword expansion.

Therefore I can't see what I am lacking?

Live long and prosper.

I repeat.

I have Civ IV Beyond the Sword.

But I can neither load the MOD, which I have extracted, using the Advanced option nor does the ikon work. So what, pray tell me, is my problem?

Live long and prosper.

The only thing I can think of is that the Civ:Complete installation folder structure is different than the one the installer automatically tries to install the mod to.

If you play SMAX far enough into the future with seven factions on a huge map (I play on 120x120) what usually eventually ends up happening is each of you have hundreds of orbital defense pods and planet busters and someone strikes first and usually the entire world gets destroyed by native lifeforms unless you can capture them. well, thats what usually happens in my games.

Hopefully a smax 2 would let you colonize multiple planets in the solar system so you can abandon ones that get destroyed in war.

Just to confirm on this thread, I did manage to successfully load the Planetfall MOD. Somehow, I created two MOD folders so I just extracted into both and it now works!

I have only done a few turns so far but it looks promising. It is, after all, why I bought Civ IV! :)

More secret projects, more (equally) profound quotes, and more techs.

Maybe more philosophies, but that's pushing it.

Better controls, better graphics.

More detailed cities, in which you would fight as in the old Imperium Galactica II.

I am so fed up video games these days, the only games I am still playing are Civ 4, and Guild Wars.

What happened to the space strategy genre? Alpha Centauri and Imperium Galactica II were my two favorite ever games other then Civ, but we have nothing like these games nowadays with up to date graphics, all we ever get is boring and pointless shoot em ups.

I just bought Galciv 2, but havnt tried it yet because the graphics put me off, I want a new up to date space strategy game.

I seriously hate EA for stealing the rights to Alpha Centauri, why cant they just release them back to Sid and Firaxis now?
