...what scenario would you create?

Myself: Dream of Empire - The Darien Scheme

I have it all planned out in my head, right down to how it'll all look and the interaction between multiple maps. The objective? Survive and prosper.

What about you guys?

The Darien Scheme? This is the first time I heard that term and after googling, now I know what it is. Sounds interesting. :)

Me, I´m always dreaming of a huge spacewar scenario, containing civs of all kind of Science Fiction stuff with different animated spaceships for these civs. It´s fun to see the Federation battle the Kilrathi or to see a Cylon basestar in action against a Romulan Warbird or a stardestroyer of the Darksiders.

I did such a scenario (without animated units) for myself long ago, but a lot of it was lost when my old pc cought fire. Now I found an easy way to do these animations (I described it in another thread in this forum) and this scenario will come. I´m just "polishing" it and will need the help of recreating some events that were lost on the old pc and not on my backup-files of those days.

I have a folder full of part built scenarios that I know probably won't get finished, but dreaming up the ideas is fun! If I can complete Fortress Europe and Aeterna Civitas III I may have a crack at making A Soaring Spirit into a single player ToT game with multiple events files depending on which nation you decide to play as. ToT's flag system should allow me to make the AI quite competitive colonists and events can compensate for the AI's lack of long distance trading and military ability. I would also like to finish my Balkan Wars, Rise of the Dictators II and Shogun multiplayer scenarios at some point. Right now I have caught the single player bug again so finishing Fortress Europe is my priority!

^ Wait,what ??? Balkan wars !!! Which wars 1912-1913 ? Or other wars.If it is these wars I can help a lot...

And not to be offtopic. Here is what the Darien scheme is (so other users wont have to google it):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darien_scheme

And if I had the time:

World War I: ToT version.Currently testing the idea

Indonesian Civil War: Modern fictional conflics based on the game "Joint Operations".And I have 80 % finished MGE beta sitting on my PC for 2 years.

The Cuban Missile Crisis: Alternative history. The only difference with the real history will be the push of a button.

The Balkan Wars in 1911-1913: This is why my reaction was that...strange.

... or ability. Count of the Saxon Shore would be mine. Or the Wars of the Roses. Or The Roman Invasion of Britain, or....

I once started on a scenario I never finished, called "Bad Planet".

Human colonists with some militia against alien wildlife, and then, major alien contact of the hostile kind. Research tree was focused on bringing "United Star Federation" units to the planet to aid the colonists. Never finished. Probably never will. It wasn't anything advanced really, but it still was a nice idea. Come to think of it, I've never finished any scenario I started on. Not to any degree I actually released one at any rate.

If I can choose a runner up, I always wanted to make my own end of world war two scenario, with a twist.

After I finish Over the Reich, it'll be a tossup whether or not I go back to Rome, or try to adapt Nemo's Blitz to ToT as a multiplayer-only game with multiple maps representing various altitudes.

Fairline, I think a Roman invasion of Britain could probably utilize much of the tech tree from Germanicus (at least in terms of the path to city improvements) better than Germanicus did. Certain improvements could be part of flags that trigger massive revolts such as that by the Iceni.

Anyway, why not give it a shot? After all the help you've given pretty much the entire forum, I'm sure we'd fall over backwards doing our best to help you if you ran into a snag :)

I could send you the excel file I used to dream up Germanicus before I ever put anything into the rules...

1) The Oni war. A cross between Japan and L5R Rokugan. I have the graphics and a new map, now drawing the underworld level, I have a good idea how to implement the summoning of Kami etc.
and ofcourse:
2) Caucasus. I made a smaller, playable map with just Armenia and Azerbaijan on. But there's no rush, I have to really think out the tech tree.

I have so many ideas for scenarios. Like my never completed US Civilwar scenario, a medieval time scenario playing in Europe or only in the Middle Eastern, a WWI scenario located on the Western Front, an Alexander the Great scenario, a scenario about the unification of Italy in the 19th century and so on

Currently I´m trying to finish the Napoleonic Age scenario :)

I second Tanelon's Caucasus scenario. How dare you tantalize us with such an interesting scenario idea.

I actually have a text file full of notes for the scenario ideas that sometimes tug at me from the dark places of my mind. Alot of these have actually been realized by other scenario creators in the last year or two. But there are still a good number left too, perhaps after the Sea Kings is finally finished I will have some fun with one of these ideas:

@@Defcon: Fuldas Gap 1985
@@The Scythian Heroic Age
@@The Yu Chi Migrations and the Kushan Empire
@@The Voyages of Zheng He

@@our_man's damned interesting lovercraftian sequel to the 'World of Jules Verne' concept.

@@The Flayed God- Back in the day when Gareth made a progression tree of Aztec units I though it would be cool to make a ToT scenario depicting the Mexica's road to empire from their humble origins as backwards snake-eating barbarians dwelling amidst the powerful and sophisticated city-states of the valley of Mexico, to the apex of the triple alliance under Ahuitzotl, and ending with Quetzalcoatl's prophesied return in 1519.

@@Mesopotamian City States 2500 B.C.E.- After the flood had swept over, and kingship had descended from heaven once again, the Sumerian dynasties of Kish, Sippar, Uruk and Isin battle each other as well as the enigmatic Elamites and the barbaric Gutians for domination of Mesopotamia.

@@Foundation and Empire- A 4X empire building scenario based on the universe of Issac Asimov's foundation trilogy. Or alternatively something based loosely on the old Terran Trade Authority sci-fi art books. But I'd settle for Hans99's Star Control scenario.

And I know many excellent scenarios have already been done on the subject but, any new Fall of Rome or Dark Age scenarios would be pretty neat (Exile finish yours!).

Thanks for the offer of the tech tree; you're right it would work perfectly with an invasion of Britain scenario. As an aside, I lost my latest Germanicus playthrough, but was enjoying myself so much I carried on playing 'til I'd conquered Germania - the tech tree is excellent and incredibly developed for a limited-turn wargame. It really should be used in a longer scenario....

As for me, I had a go at scenario making years ago and found I had neither the patience or skill to see it through :(

All of the above please, particularly #6, 7 and 8! I'd forgotten about the Foundation and Empire books; read them years ago and loved them.

Possibly the perfect WW2 scenario to end them all...:D

Alternately, a giant Star Wars space epic set in the "Empire" period - might do it this year!

:D

I have thought more about Caesar civil war, I think it might be doable, if I were only to take the Italian theater, rather than try to show all of the war.

Anyone know if there is a map of northern/central Italy?

I have had all kinds of ideas for scenarios, worked on some of them never actually finished any, which I'm not happy about.

If you were going to limit yourself to one map, wouldn't Greece/Macedonia offer more battles? There wasn't much going on militarily in the Italian theater during Caesar's civil war...

You might also consider using multiple maps:

Greek Theatre
Alexandria
Spain
"Transport" (basically just a map where your units walk to the appropriate tile to wind up in a good place on the other maps).

I think you could pull it off, Ingvar. "You can do it, we can help" :)

Hmm, my idea was starting off with only the Italian part, giving a two player game where one player may try to do better than Pompey, who despite controlling a larger force did not even try to stop Caesar from taking Rome.
(The Greek part of this war is very exciting though! Have not read enough about Egypt, or Spain.)

Your idea is good, but I could not make a scenario off such complexity, certainly not as a first scenario, and certainly not now when school is taking most of my time.
Maybe I will have lots of time next summer, unless I´m lucky enough to get some work!

  1. Gothic vampire multi-map scenario with werewolves, Gypsies, witches, ghouls, village mobs, heroes, etc. A bit like AD&D's Ravenloft setting. One map would be some kind of world of perpetual darkness. Various vampire lords would be trying to piece together an artefact that would open gateways to the main map, allowing some serious beasties to wreak havoc. Churches and other holy buildings would be immune from vampire attack, but vulnerable to their servants. Created the main map and some of the units.
  2. A multi-map Underdark scenario with Drow, Illithids, wererats, troglodytes and more. Heroes upgraded via Leonardo's workshop.
  3. Fictional modern scenario set in the Middle-east, with Islamic fundamentalists attempting to establish a Pan-Islamic state or Caliphate. Created map; was never really happy with it. Starts in 1980, following the Iranian Revolution and the establishment of Saddam Hussein's presidency. Protagonist is a fictional Jihadist group.
  4. Fantasy desert-themed scenario; multiple-maps again, with thriving oases, ruined temples and tombs, hostile dervishes, bandits, fanatics, djinn, flying carpets, giant arthropods, sphinxes, mummies, etc. Arabian-style civilizations with older Egyptian-style ruins, containing various nasties, buried beneath the sands.
  5. A Vietnam War scenario - so let's hope Techumseh finds the time. :D
