If you had to use one row of techs which one would you use

i would use the third row because i follow a very economic/scientific strategy and don't try win by conquest unless i'm bored or there is only about 100 turns left. The title is wrong it should be civics.

The hypothetical is a nonsence, as you hit a dead end eventually requiring tech's from 'other rows'. I'm not really sure what it's doing in the Strategies and Tips forum at any rate.

But because I'm not going to dump on anyone's thread (more than I already just have), I'd go with the bottom row. Access to good units, good resources, and some handy buildings in Forges, Harbors, and Grocers.

The civics options are shown in rows in the change civics screen and the rows are roughly the same as the governments in civ 3

OK that's civics, but the thread title is about techs. That's confusing.
If the question is about civics, I like slavery, Hereditary rule and later Representation generally speaking. All the rest is situational.

I dont think people stick to a row of civics.There are just too many factors involved.
