What does it do, and why does Civ4 crash if the number is changed?

And btw, I have set them both back to their default number (17) but my game is STILL crashing.

If the game still crashes after you set them back to the original values, then you may have to clear your cache before reloading the changes. Otherwise, I don't think they're the cause of the crash.

Which XML files are those in, btw?

Ah the cache, but where is the cache?

It is located in.. Terrain/TerrainSettings.xml

the cache is in ...

[ x ] : \ Documents and Settings \ [ user name ] \ Application Data \ My Games \ civ4 \ cache

is it possibly related to the width and height of a terrain tile in the game? if so the crashing may be a result of attempting to resize a terrain art file to match the new dimensions... but the numbers don't make much sense, without a measurement unit...

Thats what I was thinking Rayanth, but why would Firaxis make us change every single art file to fit the new cell size? And why not even say so in the terrainsettings xml file?

That's why I just refuse to believe.

and thanks smellymummy

I don't think many people realise how much power changing the cell size actually has, which is why I am so eager to get it to work.

Lastnight I found something in GlobalSettings (not sure if thats the right name..) but in there I found about Plot size, and it comments: "nothing to see here, moving along...". What is Firaxis hiding? What does this do?

I should clarify myself on plot size, I can get the cell size to increase, but I can't get the borders, rivers, tree's, to match the same size as the cell; so everything appears 'broken' on the map.
