Ugh, this is getting out of hand

I understand the overall mechanic of "you're too close, keep away, PERSONAL BUBBLE"

But there shoudl be a limit to wh en the AI can make that demand, because sometimes it's THEM that settle cities near me and THEN they demand not to settle near them, I'm like WTH?

Anybody noticed this? I think the demand should expire after 5-10 turns after I place a new city before, in which within those turns they can demand me not to settle my cities, if they settle a city near me, I should be the one to do it.

Besides, if I ever say "Refrain from founding cities" they get upset, so why should i care in the first place?

It's about when they discover your city that triggers it stupidly enough, so there is very little you can do about it.
I just see everyone as either an enemy or an enemy I'm at war with, so a DoW is rarely a bad thing.
Ofcourse this can be a massive buzzkill if you're going diplo or culture VC, but Shafer didn't design a hexagonal 1upt war system for you to play unmanly strategies.

edit: a female cat is wordfiltered? Really?

What bothers me with those options it doesn't matter even if you say ok we won't settle not close to you anymore it was a mistake and you actually keep you're word

they still stay pissed because they see you're old city as a city settling near them constantly kinda wierd

Funny part is they still become mad if you say ok we are sorry we won't settle near you and actually keep you're word

because they still thinx that the city next to them is a new city so once donne allways MAD so why do you give us choisses if it doesn't have any affect then it isn't a choise right?

The AI is just a grumpy guy who thinxs the world evolves eround him.

I had a game where I was the first person who became allied with monoco(and influence with) and then england decide after 30 that I was deeling with her city state(while I was 30 turns allied with it) say what know?

Or bismark who is on the other way of the pangea with 3 civs between us and covet my land good luck with that budy

Same is with wonders, and winning the game

It seams a lot of these options are just for the show

Well we can all hope that maybe the AI becomes mature in the expansion pack

It's just the AI being dumb, one of those things you have to deal with. They'll settle a city far far away from their capital next, but right next to my civ, and then complain (of course, if you complain to them about it, nothing good comes of it). Or I'll liberate a civilization back from the dead and then get to listen to them complain that I'm settling too aggressively. Nothing you can realistically do about it, so I just ignore their threats.

Oh don't worry, i'ts not that big of deal, just an annoyance, I understand if i actually settled near them, but when they settle near me.. it's just lke.. really?

I still play withint the first three difficulties so it's not that big of a deal.

It's the AI emulating people too well. Face it, you all know people who would have the gall to found a city right next to you and then complain about your cities being to close to thiers.
It's just "unfun" to hear it from an AI instead of an actual person. Same applies to all the various insults.

The game mechanic is the AI compares the straight line distance of that city against both your capital and its own. Things like ocean & mountains ignored. If closer to its own; then the AI complains.

If you turn them off, that AI gives you a double negative modifier for the rest of the game instead of a single one.

Worse part is when the AI put a new city close to you and then ask to not settle close to them

Whats really annoying is how the computer considers the entire continent
its territory. Quiet worm I'll build my cities where I want.

They denounce you if you settle a city too close, even if you never seen their borders, Then they ridicule you for your small army, next they ridicule you for your minor culture.

Next, you kill them, just to make them shut up! :)

Kind of mimics real life where people build there houses under the flight path of an airport and then complain about the noise made by all the planes...

The border/city placement/city number is quite logical really.

AIs will "want your lands" if you have resources they don't. Otherwise they are like "meh". Same as players.
AIs will be upset if you plant a city right between the capitals. Otherwise they don't care about it much. Same as players.
AIs will be upset if you found more than one city every 20 turns (normal speed). Otherwise they are fine with it. Same as players.

I see the expanding part as completely stupid and unbelievable, on higher levels they still whinge about expansion....EVEN if you only made 4 quick cities and THEY made 8!

Completely untested and so wrong.

I can buy that they wanted a city down by those 3 cottons, but IF they never even seen those lands, why would they complain?

AI's should only complain IF they know the territory they are complaining about, not a mathematical stringent set into their AI minds. IF I plant my second city, before I even met them, they should be quiet, but of course coveting that spot. Not complaining that I settle too close to them 50 turns later, when they find the time to look where I am.

Complete rubbish!

They also seem to ask you to stop settling near them when you didn't do so (instead, you took over one of their cities or they settled near you instead, which is my major issue with this and the reason why I made the topic but I have a feeling nobody picked up no that)

More Complete rubbish! :crazyeye:

A very untested game, that could've been so good with another year of development, but unfortunately, this wasn't Firaxis choice, it was 2K.

Moneygrabbers won't do this games future better.

Next game will be another facebook Civ or a very light "improvement" of what we have. Face it, CIV is dead for all oldtimers, next generation will be played on IPods and crap and I have to look for something else to play.....

That's probably true, but atleast we get to enjoy Civ 5, once they add Vassal States and Adv. UN Options I'll be happy! Because we already getting back Religion.

IF modders got the SDK and stuff, we will have a new game coming.

But will that ever happen?
