i'm dying to know...

How do you have so much money to constantly buy techs? Is it really worth just putting the science research at 10% through half of the game and buying all the techs?

It's not money that I use. I noticed that AI always goes for education first. ButI research engineering, and sell it to all the advanced civs. Then I have monotheism, theology, feudalism (I usually research it myself), chivalry, and heaps of gold. This speeds me up a bit. Then I do the same thing with Printing press. After that I just set my science to 100%.

And of course the mark of a really good civ player is that they can use any civilization to win, not "tiny map, 16 civs, Persia, immortal rush" or "industrious needed to build roads there in time to attack." Over-reliance on the superpowered civs will drag you down - try playing the English in your next game! :crazyeye:

Right on, Sulla!

Thouhg it is still a very good idea to take a strong ancient era civ for your first tries on Deity!

I now usually take the Babylonias, English or Germans (whoses UUs never come into play with me) and have loads of fun.

another practical advice is to not actively buy contacts with other civs. your current victim cannot drag civs you don't know into an alliance against you. contact a civ if you see its unit, but don't spend money on contacts.

i use 0% tax for ancient and medieval. pay an arm and a leg for iron working and wheels to see iron and horses. pick a fight with a civ that preferably doesn't have both - its size relative to you doesn't really matter. after you declare war, station your offensive troops in cities and wait for AI warriors and archers to pour in. stop them cold outside your city and destroy. then move the majority of your offensive units toward an objective city. leave a few behind for further defense - they will be strong enough to defend you because your cities will continue to reinforce them with new units. a good road connection between your cities is vital, as you don't want any one city to be swarmed. upon sighting enemy units, estimate their target and reinforce ahead of time.

i don't follow specific attack dates or special city building. i space cities normally, and overwhelm the AI with tactical numerical advantages even when my overall military is weaker - blizkrieg in the ancient age ;)
