I just played a Prince/large/epic/terra map as the Dutch and finally found a place in my heart for the previously ignored State Property.

Could you look over my strategy and tell me what you think? Is it a sound strategy? How can it be improved? Can you foresee any long term ratifications for my love-affair with State Property?

In previous games I would use State Property for the short period of time before I founded a corporation. But it would be cast aside for the rest of the game because I wanted to spread my corporation and get the amazing corporate bonuses. However, in this game I got the CR wonder, founded Sid's Sushi Corporation and tried out a new strategy.

My basic idea is to switch onto State Property and take the :yuck: unhealthiness while either teching quickly or gaining mad amounts of gold. This works best with a + :food: corporation as it would quickly regrow the population lost. The CR wonder is also helpful as this strategy employs a couple civic changes.

The switch to State Property would be made for two purposes: To get a technology quickly or gain extra :gold:. The increased tech pace would help creating an advantage for a war or to get a head start on a wonder. The extra :gold: could be used for unit upgrades or to hurry production with Universal Sufferage.

I'm doing this in my current game and am hoping it won't hang me in the end!

I always use State Prop when going for a domination vic. Having all those intercontinental colonies will murder the economy and there ain't no corporation stopping that! lol. I shoot to communism just to get state property, and i stay on state property in these games.

State Property was THE civic in Warlords/Vanilla. I actually don't use it much in BtS because I like corps, Mining Inc. in particular.

Yeah, if you spread Mining inc, to all your hammer starved cities well it will give you a better overall hammer output than State property can ever give you. But to spam Mining inc in your own civ...you need free market and a random event which lowers the inflation by -25%.

I always use state property, never bother with corps, don't really see why I should since they cost more than they give and I can win on Emperor without using them.

I've had bts since the day it came out and have yet to accept a corp strategy There simply is no need. State property has saved me over 1500 gpt per turn, on 4 continent hemisphere maps. I guess colonies could be broken off and corp spammed for a research boost (30) gpt per city per turn if used correctly, but even then its less efficient and costly to spread all those corps, then it would have been to simply develop the city.

Usually I end up with a bigger empire than I intend. Therefore State property always comes in useful for me. The 10% extra :hammers: is really useful for those smaller cities that would not get Mining Inc even if you had it for instance.

I always go state prop. I am not that into these corps, so my favourite civics haven't changed that much since Warlords.

state prop. is also best for my taste. have the same problem as Bast, so there is always some building going on.

communism keeps your finances in check while expanding/building up your empire. and with that your research affloat.

the whole new corporations thing i only use when i get tired of war and have lots of seafood fo Sid's Sushi for more population to up my score in the endgame.
