Im just getting decent at Civ3, finally won my second game on monarch (thanks in no small part to the tips of the good people here) - is anyone else in the same boat as me for whatever reason not ready for Civ4 when it comes out? I think i am going to stick with this version for a few more months, i feel like i am just hitting my stride on Civ3.

I'm feeling pretty comfortable about Vanilla Civ3 and PTW. Conquest seems a bit more difficult but I'm always up for new challenges to test my skills.

If you are gaming just for the sake of entertainment it really doesn't matter how challenging it is but rather how fun.

If you're like me you constantly need new challenges to continually test your ability to learn new things. I have Civ4 on Pre-Order and intend to play it soon as it comes in. I'm going through the conquest on the hardest difficulty levels I can manage until Civ4 comes.

Yeah, I hear you. I had already played Civ2 a lot and could roll over Deity in most games before getting Civ3 right after it was released. I played it off and on for a year or two, but put it down after becoming frustrated with how much more difficult it was than Civ2. It was just a few months ago that I finally came here, got serious about learning the game, and realized that my problems were both easily surmountable and ultimately the sign of a much better game.

Oh well, at least I'm here now and can learn Civ4 correctly from the beginning.

I too am a newly formed Monarch player :king: - but with Civ IV, the way I view it is: We're all going to have to put the difficulty down a bit anyway since we're not going to be used to playing with all the new features - or know anything about exploits etc - so I think a lot of people will start their games on either Monarch or Regent.

But since we've just got to Monarch or whatever, we'll just go back one level (coz chieften and warlord are pretty pointless to play on anyway :p ) to Regent and start again. I bet we'll soon be back on Monarch when we've got the hang of the new game. :)

Oh, and we are ready for Civ IV - we'll be less ready if we didn't play it when it first comes out coz everyone else will play it and get better at it, while we continue Civ III.

Well, I'm a relative newby as well, and I'm in no hurry to upgrade to Civ IV. I think I asked for it for my birthday (March) and that'll be plenty soon. The guy who got me into Civ is still playing Civ II with no plans on moving on.

I know *exactly* how you feel. I, too, just beat my second game at monarch. I feel like I'm hitting my stride, but a lot of the entertainment flowing from the game comes from discussing it on these forums, and anticipating GOTM. Well, now that stuff is fading fast with the release of CivIV. I don't expect to play CivIII much from now on (or CivIV). It's very time consuming, anyway.

My feelings exactly, however it's useless to point this out to diehard Civ2 fanatics, even when they are deriding the flaws of Civ2. The same people who complain about Civ2's ICS, spies, caravans and howitzers complain even louder when they encounter Civ3's corruption, diplomacy, trade system and combat model. I don't get it.

My philosophy for Civ4 is the same as when Civ3 came out. I'm going to wait. If 2 and 3 are any indication, the first few versions of the game will be bug filled to the point of being unplayable. Compare C3C to Vanilla Civ3. They are hardly the same game at all.

Yes! I'm certainly going to continue to play Civ III, even though I might have to have a look at Civ IV too. My only fear is that the Civ III forums is going to be drained of the people that helped me overcome Emperor, and noone will be around to help me with my newly started Deity-game! :p

I think the soonest I (and most other people) plan on getting it (or asking for it) is Christmas. I just got Civ 3 like 3 weeks ago. I still want Civ 4, but I can wait till Christmas.

I am brand new to CIV III and just bought the Complete.....I am way behind the curve....I LOVE this game and very disappointed I did not try it sooner...I have never played any CIV game.....But seeing as my computer is between the min and recommended req of CIV IV I will save money to build a new computer and by that time CIV IV will be cheaper, and expansion pack will probably be out, and all the bugs everyone are complaining about will be patched, but I am definitely sold on CIV III Complete....Even though I suck even at chieftan level now:)
