Im searching for singleplayer RPGs

That's what I want!

Online games where you play as a charecter and do stuff.

Oh. Sorry.

If you want some real "Role Playing" in your games, then I cant recomend Planescape Torment enough, it is IMO the best RPG ever and the best written game of any kind. The role-playing, chacters, dialog, setting, and plot are exeptional. Theres a lot of reading involved so if your a hack-n-slash person this wont be your cup of tea. Good luck finding it though, it recently officaly went "out of print" for some mad reason as it's only 3 years old (my guess is some licencing issue, also although criticaly acclaimed it sold criminaly poorly) but some shops may still have it, or you could probably find it second hand.

Other classic Interplay RPGs include Fallout 1 & 2 they are post-apocalyptic RPGs with exelent character creation/ development loads of side quests, and the freedom to be good guy or be a real basted, a reputaion and karma sustem ensured the choices you make do have consequences. The second one especialy is massive. The combat is very refeshing if you tired of swords and magic, now you can have some real hardware: rocket-lauchers, machine guns, automatic-shotguns, assult-rifes, plasma weapons, you name it.

BTW they are both quite dark and moody (athough not without humour), but then again I like dark and moody games

Fallout 2 review

Well, my RPG experience is actually limited to Squaresoft's games, and in particular the Final Fantasy series. I have played every one from part 6 to 10 and I love them all, definetely worth to check out.

My favourite RPG is not a FF however, it is Chrono Trigger for SNES. Very good game, I really reccomend it (if you can find it that is)

Free offline RPGs:

NetHack - Should be well known as one of the oldest and best rogue clones.

ADoM - Another roguelike game with more stuff than NetHack (even a story).

Zelda CLassic - A remake (not a warez version of the original NES ROM) of the classic Zelda for NES.

Dungeon Master Java - Remake of the classic game in Java (real Java, not java script).

Dink Smallwood - This one was made freeware by the developer.

Those are the best free RPGs I know. There are several others I've played but all of those where unstable/buggy so I would stick to those.

Of course there are 2 RPGs out there which are worth buying, the 2 best RPGs ever made on any system: Fallout 1 & 2. Both are classics so they shouldn't be too expensive.

oops didnt realise you wanted free RPGs, well Torment will probably be classed as abandonware soon, which is techniacly illigal of course, (although not imoral in my opinion). Anyway all three are on budget now so should be avalible cheap, trust me they will be very good value for money.
