The USA Northern Coast Guard, a formidable one and dubbed by many the 8th Fleet struck at Toronto in the early hours of March 21st. The fleet consisted of an outdated Ironclad, two old steamers and a modern Armoured Cruiser. A newly constructed Battleship entered service the same day, and acted as Flagship.
The Ironclad
Detroit initiated the assault, expected to draw fire from coastal batteries, who could then in turn be bombarded by the more powerfull vessels. To the crew's great surprise, they entered port unopposed, and they bombarded the fortifications near the docks, catching the garrison by surprise. Seeing the way to the port was clear, the Flagship
Michigan followed suit, bombarding the barracks of Toronto, destroying a second battalion of British troops, a battery of Cannons, and two batteries of Field artillery. Then the Armoured Cruiser
Pittsburgh was send in and it took out the remaining artillery batallion.
Toronto was then entered by US Troops from Detroit, and many British soldiers fled north. Robed of their equipment, they soon fell prey to the US army in persuit, and the powerfull guns of the
Pittsburgh.
US forces, assembled to storm the gates of Toronto, now marched much further and lay seige to Ottawa instead. Aerial bombardments have allready caused heavoc in the city, and the city is expected to fall in the next month.
In the Carribean, Operation 'Sugar Cane' was unleashed upon the British colonies.
The powerfull US 1st Fleet, boosted by the newly build Battleships 'Maine', 'Texas' and 'Indiana' bombarded the islands Jamaica, New Providence and Bermuda, aided by auxilary ships from the Coast Guard. All three islands fell in a matter of hours, and transports and warships were able to transfer US Troops to secure the island groups, exept for the island Eleuthera of the Bahamas where Iregulars took refuge when Nassau was captured.
The Battleship 'Maine' then proceded to Belize, where it singlehandedly destroyed the British garrison. Expecting heavy resistence in the jungles of Belize, a strong force was send to capture the city, and Machine Guns have been set up guarding the important mines south of the city. Remnants of the British forces have taken to the mountains of Guatemala, and it is expected it will take many months before they could be either captured or killed.
The Brits hardly put up a fight during the assaults, and US ships took very little damage, exept for the old Ironclads. All four Battleships are still fully operational, and no repairs are deemed necessarry. The Ironclads will be sold for scrap, or will end up in the Museum of Pan-American Liberty.
